It's really tasty. I like it a lot. Just for not the prices you pay for it over here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,489 ✭✭✭Curb Your Enthusiasm

    No. Overrated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,482 ✭✭✭✭Ush1

It's tasty but too expensive for what it is.

    It's overrated.
    Chicken and spice.

    VASTLY overrated.

The chicken is grand if overpriced. The sides like mashed potato are actually nearly worth getting just to laugh at.

    Pile of crap

    Go get yourself hillbillys

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,639 ✭✭✭Sugar Free

Over rated for the price you pay. Marginally healthier than KFC comparing most menu items.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,593 ✭✭✭theteal

    Spicy grilled chicken. Meh.

Better than KFC? Yes, I'm not sure much can be worse.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,833 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

It's ridiculous why people go mad for this. Cook yourself some chicken, cover it with some sauce so that it doesn't matter what you're eating as it's just the spices you're tasting.

That's what eating in Nandos is like.

It's fantastic. Spicy marinated grilled chicken. It's not deep fried and it's not coated in god knows what that KFC coating is and there's no gravy. I'm not sure how people can think it's anywhere near KFC in terms of how unhealthy it is.

I don't even think it's particularly overpriced. Compared to a McDonalds or KFC it is more expensive but it's infinitely nicer. Compared to Eddie Rocketts it's similar in price but a whole lot nicer. It's similar in price to pub grub and the like, but pub grub is very often terrible. Do I prefer Nando's to a dried out, overcooked piece of beef that's been sitting under a head lamp for the last 2 hours, with a side of vacum packed veg, watery gravy and stuffing that doesn't taste remotely like stuffing? Yes I certainly do. Nando's chicken tastes like chargrilled chicken which is lovely!

And the sides are grand. Nothing amazing, but sweetcorn, coleslaw, chips, mint peas. They're nice, I wouldn't rave about them.

It's KFC for people who can use a knife and fork.

Extremely over rated and over priced

Chipper food at restaurant prices, what's not to like?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,683 ✭✭✭Subcomandante Marcos

It's pretty **** to be honest OP. Fast food dressed up as restaurant food. Same ****ty chicken used by the likes of supermacs and KFC but grilled instead of fried and with a pretty basic periperi marinade instead of being dredged in flour.

Give me good fried chicken over it any time. Crackbird or hillbillys are better, find a Korean place that does Korean fried chicken and you'll never think about nandos again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,300 ✭✭✭✭razorblunt

Tis grand. Not much bang for your buck.

If you're in Cork, wanting chicken and you don't go to Hillbilly's you're doing it wrong!

I think it's quite nice myself, but definitely overpriced.

There's better chicken for better value out there for sure.

    KFC is **** though.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Get a bag of big als spicy chicken goujons, much nicer.

Over rated, over priced under staffed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,236 ✭✭✭Dr. Kenneth Noisewater

I've never had it in Ireland, have been in London a couple of times. It's grand. Tasty, a little overpriced but I don't feel as guilty after it as I do after a KFC/Supermac's/Burger King etc.

Nothing to write home about, I don't see what the big deal is tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,622 ✭✭✭blue note

Where are these better cheaper places? I know of the places that are worse but cheaper like KFC, McDonald's, etc. I know of similar priced places that aren't as good like Eddie rockettes, Milano's and the like. But what places are nicer and cheaper? Or even as nice and cheaper?

I agree that nandos is very simple - it's just nicely marinated and nicely cooked chicken. But not many places just do something simple and do it well. I've often paid the same in a pub for a mediocre burger and chips or fish and chips or whatever.

Most gastro pubs, Bunsen, Pitt Bros etc are all much better and the same price. The staff even take orders and bring It to your table

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the chicken used in KFC or Supermacs. KFC is delivered fresh and coated in store every day, which is more than can be said for any of their competitors, and exactly the same as would be done in the likes of Crackbird (which is vastly overrated for what it is). I don't eat there, but can't understand why people believe any aul ****e they read about them.

It's terrible, factory farmed, hormone pumped crap chicken.

Did you just pull that 'fact' out of your arse? It's factory farmed, yes...like nearly all the chicken in the supermarkets but they use hormone-free chicken, so basically like any fresh chicken you go to Tesco or Supervalu and buy.

I don't buy factory farmed chicken. Nobody should.

Fair play to ya only buying free range and organic, but the reality is not everybody can afford it. And to meet demand, there has to be factory farmed chicken.

So why did you say they pump it with hormones?

The ones in Hillbillys that you recommend are all hand reared by the Hillbilly family, and named. The Hillbilly kids cry every time they have to kill one to feed the masses. But the parents tell them the chickens souls have gone to chicken heaven.

I don't bother with organic tbh, just free range pasture rared is grand for me. I know a good farmer he's pretty local and I order stuff from him directly.

Hillbillys and crackbird are the best of the bad lot when it comes to chicken quality.

Chicken and chips for teenagers and adults who don't want to admit they're still ordering off the kiddie's menu.

Nothing particularly wrong in itself except the price and lingering infantalism.

Sure, but if you're going out to a restaurant then you've got any number of much better options.

putting hormones into chicken is not legal in the eu.
There,s free range chickens and factory bred chicken .
they use chemicals and hormones in meat products in the usa .

ah your comparing oranges with apples here mate.

    Nandos is fresh grilled chicken

    KFC deep fried breaded stuff.

IMO both are good but different meals,

KFC for a drunken munch is unreal

Nandos when you want to pretend your being healthy

nandos is grand but is massively overrated.

I find it odd when people say Nandos is overrated, when all I ever hear about Nandos is that it's....well....overrated. I've never actually heard it being "rated" at all.

Have ye ever been to that place on Middle Abbey Street, which offers an all-you-can-eat Asian buffet for €7.50? I used to go there when I started my first job nearby. It was a Mecca for poor students. I walked by there the other day and it's still going. Crazy value.

OT, Nando's is nice. Crackbird is alright too, but the staff are douchebags. No offence but you bring people food for a living, lose the attitude? Ditto Jo Burger (Same owner). They need to review their hiring policy IMO.

Hillbillys and crackbird are the best of the bad lot when it comes to chicken quality.

Didn't think much of the chicken in Crackbird at all.

The fact that Nando's waiting staff don't take your order really really bothers me. Probably more than it should, might just be grumpy old man syndrome, but if I'm in a restaurant and there's waiting staff then take my bloody order!

What's the going rate? Is it just luck that you got to know this farmer, or does he send a few of the fresh chickens down the town every now and then in a limo handing out flyers to drum up business?

Thought it a little overpriced, got an undercooked, pink chicken once in the very few times I have darkened its doors.
