Tax relief on dental work

    Hi all,

    My parents paid for some dental work I had done.
    Approx 7k. I had crowns put in.

    Can they claim tax relief on this?

    Yes they can claim relief for this.

    They can claim online at the end of the year or they can send in the completed Med 2 (get it from the dentist) along with a Med 1 to their local tax office.

    Yes, medical expenses do not have to be for yourself, but relief is only granted at the standard rate of 20% irrespective of their tax band.

    Get the dentist to complete a med2 form. If they do work for people from the south they'll be familiar with it. The easiest way of claiming the relief for those on paye is via PAYE Anytime. You dont have to send in the med2 but keep it in a safe place in case revenue want to see it.
