state pension increase for spouse

Hi all just wondering if anyone could answer this .

an application for a state pension has gone in by my uncle and he has also applied for an increase in this for his unemployed spouse,a letter from the dept wants to know if his spouse has any bobs in any bank and want some documents declaring this amount -the spouse has a few grand -my question is how much can the spouse have in the bank without deductions coming in on this pension.

its actually a contributory i presume its still 20 grand

Adult dependant

You can get an increase in your payment for an adult dependant (called a qualified adult).
Your income is not taken into account in the assessment for a Increase for a Qualified Adult. Any income your adult dependant has from employment, self-employment, savings, investments and capital (for example, any property except your own home) is taken into account. If you have joint savings or investments with your spouse, civil partner or cohabitant only half is taken into account.
