Can you be too tall?

They've just done a study and found that Dutch men, at 6 foot even, are the tallest men in the world on average. Which begs the question, can one be too tall? Is there a limit where you find it unattractive in your preferred sex?

Well Robert Wadlow was the tallest man EVER, so yeah, he's obviously unattractively tall. Pretty much anyone over 8 foot ends up not being able to walk, which is pretty effed up because you can't even see how tall they are anymore. Discarding cases of pituitary tumours though, can a man under 7 foot be too tall?

6'3'' would be my maximum ideal height.

Anything taller and life starts to get pretty uncomfortable; clothes that fit you are harder to find, and flying Ryanair is probably no longer an option.

I'm 6'5 and I have no problem finding clothes. Ryanair not being an option is a blessing, no?

I worked in holland 20 years ago. At the time, there was roughly 15 million population. 1 million of those were over 2 metres, which is 6'6". And believe me, they are tall. At the time I was 20 years old and 6'3". I went from towering over most Irish people, to being at eye level with a lot of Dutch women, never mind the men!

Clothes can be an issue. Ryanair is actually fine, Aer Lingus is worse cause the damn seats recline and the person in front always reclines.

You're too tall when you have to duck for doors and lights in most houses.

No such thing as being too tall. Love tall guys. Tallest guy I was with was about 6'5, my OH is about 6'1/6'2. Even in my tallest shoes, I'm only 5'9. I would love to be tall. But not taller than any guy I'm seeing.

So about 6'8, height of door frames. Fair enough.

Where do you buy jeans? I'm 6'5", I need a 36" jeans leg, and Jack & Jones or GStar were the only brands that did them in Dublin city centre, but they don't any more.

Well the 36 inch inseam is your problem. I wear 34's and I have pretty long legs, yours must be monstrously big! They don't sell very many 36's. You should try the Big and Tall store in Dublin.

I'm 5'10". If I could pick an ideal height I would want to be it would be 6'2". Wouldn't want to be taller than that.

6'1 female here. I always felt like I was too tall for most of my life, still do. Do I think I'm too tall? Probably yes. Not a day goes by when I don't get comments from my height and it has definitely hindered me when it comes to the opposite sex.

im 6 ft 4 , id much prefer be 5ft 11 or even 5 ft 10 , its incredibly over rated , crouched positions in cars , planes , banging your head etc

    over rated

My OH is 6ft 7. He regularly hits his heads off lights and door frames are often too low or his head just skims them lol.

Very difficult to get shirts and t-shirts to fit such a long torso!

I find tall men very attractive though!

im 6ft 5 aswell and i find clothes a pain in the ass to find . pants are fine but all my height is from my butt up so i find it hard to find tops long enough .

i like being tall but there are a lot of draw backs especially if your a car guy like me . most sports cars or fast cars i cant fit into .

hitting head on doors as said does happen the odd time but most are ok for me .

also for flying its a nightmare . imagine what a plane seat would be like for someone whos 5ft 8 its bad enough now imagine that seat was 20% smaller . thats what its like for me . literally cant move . pins and needles cramps within 20 mins of taking off :(

having said that being tall has more positives than negatives

dont know if it happens other tall people but most guys i know over 6ft 3 have big feet aswell. suppose its just natures way of helping you balance :P so it is a pain in the ass to find shoes im a uk15 and have a tiny selection of footwear and usually have to order online without trying them on

Really, I find tall women really attractive. 6'1 would make you a shoe-in for modelling. Some of that may be jealousy or insecurity.

I'm 5'11'' which is I don't know, average I guess? People wouldn't consider me short but not particularly tall either. One of my friends is 6'5'' and handsome and pretty much every woman fancies him, the lucky git! Also if dating sites are anything to go by, height is a huge plus for blokes. I'm 2cm off 6ft, why dost thou mock me cruel fate...

I think you may be too honest for dating sites... 2cm's. Spike up the hair and stick 6ft down.

I stopped growing when I was 12 - still a third of an inch short of 6' 2" (a skinny 10lbs and 24" at birth)

I was certainly considered a bit of a freak at school and it was only when I was in my final year that some others in my year started catching up with me.

It certainly had its benefits, although equally I do remember when at primary school some of the secondary kids would come to my school to try and pick fights. I ended up being the person who would step in and stop others fighting safe in the knowledge that the other kids could not actually reach me to punch me - I could simply hold them back by reaching out and pushing my hand against their forehead

Nowadays I'm grateful I never grew any further. I've had major back problems over the years and often find myself cramped in seats at sports stadiums. Could always see what was going on when standing at concerts mind

Did you really start this thread as a bragging vehicle?

I'm 188cm and it's grand. People who think they're somehow superior because they're taller than average are the most insufferably smug of all though.

I have short and tall friends. I like petite women. And tall women.

I'd say after 200cm it's going to be diminishing returns territory.

Is someone suffering from a case of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penis_envy

The man asked a question! As the OP and a fortunate man in both regards, it seemed reasonable to answer. And no, I didn't start a thread about the dutch average height in the obscure hope someone would bring up dicks, if that was a real question instead of rhetorical snark.

I'm about the same, but don't have any of those issues - except long-haul planes. I can manage short-haul in Europe, but transatlantic is a bit of a nightmare. I managed to wangle business class a couple of times for work, which was a different world, slept like a baby.
