This is an interesting footnote on the Jaws series.
Originally the idea for Jaws 3D was to have it be an Airplane style spoof that would satirise the first 2 movies. The plot would have involved the making of Jaws 3, the cast and crew keep getting attacked by sharks. The script opens with Peter Benchly being killed by a shark in his swimming pool.
The movie was cast and Joe Dante had been hired to direct it but somewhere along the line, the movie got cancelled. Reasons for its cancellation are not clear, multiple reasons have been given from Speilberg being furious over it making fun of him and Jaws, to Universal getting cold feet to mocking its biggest money maker.
Had Jaws 3 / People 0 been made it would have been the first movie written by John Hughes to get made. Personally I think it was a bad idea, I think auidences would have been confused as Hell by a sequel being an out right comedy, it would have been R rated to boot (plenty of F bombs in the script). Universal decided to make unintentional comedies instead with Jaws 3 & 4.
How the flying **** does a shark swim to the Bahamas?

    Quite easily.

Sounds pretty terrible. I don't think Joe Dante even could've done anything with it.

Jaws 3 was bad. That '3D' scene was comical even back then.

Jaws 3 is one of the worst films I've ever seen, but this sounds even worse!

I see your Jaws 3 and raise you Total Recall reboot.

But I'd be intrigued by this concept.

Looking at this now on ITV4... Dear God it is bad. The submersible scenes are like old Stingray episodes. I think I'll see it out as some form of penance for my youth. Even the quality is like some sort of 1970's German porn.

I remember interviews with Zanuck and Brown mentioning this and thought that it would have been an awful idea. 'Jaws 3' was bad enough, but this would have been terrible.

The Jaws series is, unfortunately, one of the worst examples of an abused franchise with diminishing returns that eventually reach woeful levels. The first film remains an absolute classic and a great example of the art. 'Jaws 2' is a respectable sequel, but fails to capture the high points of the original. But 'Jaws 3' and 'Jaws - The Revenge' have to be some of the most inept examples of pictures from a major studio that I've seen.

I waited in a queue for six hours to see Jaws 3D in 1983.

Seriously, one of the worst films that I have ever seen.

The closest I got was this.

I hated Shredded Wheat. It was like eating cardboard shavings.

Ordered Jaws 3D on Bluray recently just to see how this was meant to be viewed.

Ok, the film is fairly lousy, but the 3D effects work reasonably well given the age of the film.
