    Hi

Is it possible to keep recordings on old HD box and run that separately to the tv after upgrading? Or will it stop working altogether.

Not unless you get it as a 2nd sub with multiroom.

    SKY don't miss a trick.

Rule of thumb, you can only watch previous recordings of stuff that would be on your current sub.

In theory if the box has a SCART socket you could record from that, but it would be analog quality and you'd need something that could record from SCART. And you'd have playback the stuff in real time and do it before your sub expires.

The old receiver should still receive the free to air channels after you cancel it's sub but AFAIK you won't be able to record them.

    Possibly.

The recordings are linked to the card that was used to record them to the box so it is possible that by swapping the card back to the +HD box you will stll be able to watch all the recorded content.

That is the case with subscriptions upgraded from SD-HD, the old SD box will still work* with the card it used to be paired with.

There may be an added block to stop HD boxes from working like this however.

Another possible option if you don't mind taking the boxes apart would be to try transferring the recordings to the Sky Q box with ExPVR. Sadly the developer doesn't seem to be updating it any longer so the chances of it working on the Q box aren't great.

ExPVR will work to copy recordings from your HD box to a PC but only those recorded from unencrypted FTA channels can be viewed.

*with the same card now paired to a new box you can still view channels in your sub pack except premium movies and sports channels which need paired card to unlock, all existing recordings even those from premium channels will playback however. with a different active card the sub channels will be viewable but no recordings will playback as they are linked to the original card.
