JSA to Carers allowance

Sorry if this is not the appropriate forum for posting this, but I'm hoping someone can help out with a few questions I have.

I am currently on JSA, which I get at the post office on a Tuesday. I have been awarded Carers allowance which the letter says will start August 18th, a Thursday, also being collected at the Post Office. I'm wondering do I still continue collecting as usual on a Tuesday, until the week of Aug 18? Or how does this work?

Secondly, I have a sign on date at the end of August. Do I still go by this date?

Hi Markc1184,

Both Jobseeker's Benefit and Jobseeker's Allowance are paid weekly in arrears. This means that the payment you receive on Tuesday will be for the previous week.

Carer's Allowance is paid weekly in advance on a Thursday, so payment on Thursday will be for the following week.

The Jobseekers Allowance section will be made aware of your successful claim for Carers Allowance, as such your JA may continue until your CA comes into effect, with your last collectable JA payment being on Tuesday 16th August (for the previous week) and your CA payment being Thursday 18th (for the following week).

In the event your JA payment is stopped at any stage before the 16th August, because of the award of the CA payment from the 18th August - don't panic!, you can seek to apply for a Supplementary Welfare Allowance payment from the Department of Social Protection until your CA claim goes into payment on the 18th August.
