How do Job Agencies Work?

I'm 18 (Just finished Leaving Cert) and have been searching for part time retail work for the whole summer so far. I have been applying online, handing in CVs, calling back etc, and have received not one response so far. I have experience ( I worked in Arnotts, part time, for a year) so It was kind of surprising that I would get such a poor response. I really am desperate now and so I am resorting to an employment agency. How do they work? Will I have to make an appointment? Are they effective in getting employment for you? I'm looking for part-time retail work in something like an off licence, spar, centra or really any shop for that matter.

when you say employment agencies im guessing you mean recruitment agencies?

it depends on the agency theres loads of different ways they work.

some work directly with a company to recruit staff:
ie: Amazon want 300 staff to work for Christmas they ask Le Creme to recruit the people for them, they get paid to do this.

some will contact a company and say oh i have this great person are you hiring? then they will get paid if the person gets hired

some will find a job being adverted and contact the company with their candidates again they get paid for referring the person

    loads of different ways...

depends, some have opens days, some ask you to submit a CV to their website, i always tell students to call in, well dress suited and booted with their CV and ask to speak to a recruiter. Then if their not available make an appointment (look them on up linkedin or the company website.)

this might not be the right way then, they are very good at getting people jobs however the roles you are talking about you are more than likely better off walking in with a CV and asking to speak to the manager.
