Baking brown bread question

    If I use self raising wholemeal flour instead of plain flour and yeast will this make any difference to taste?

    Assuming using self raising I wont have to allow time to rise etc?

    And using just water to mix? You'll get a brick, they are not interchangeable ingredients and work totally differently and the self raising flour won't be strong flour like plain bread flour.

    If you have bread soda then make a soda bread, if only self raising flour then best option is make scones or similar. You won't make a successful bread with self raising flour on it's own.

    If you're making a brown soda bread, you don't need to prove it anyway as there's no yeast.

    If you have a recipe that uses yeast then you need to follow the recipe. Self Raising Flour would not be a substitute for yeast.
