Lidl demolishment to rebuild

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Not too bothered by the rebuild itself. But the signage at the junction has always bothered me.

objections from Temple Carrig, Derek Mitchell, RGData and Rathdown Park Residents - all except RGData focussing on traffic.

TBH the actual Lidl store isn't increasing in size all that much (most of the increase is for a larger stockroom) so I don't know if it will generate that much additional traffic, and the traffic problems at the junction are worst in the morning peak when Lidl wouldn't be busy anyway.

Jeez... ungrateful whingers. Its only a few months since Lidl turned down a good business opportunity from Mc Donalds just to keep these people happy.

More houses in the area = more people needing to buy groceries. Simple maths. Its the extra people that cause extra traffic, not the size of the shop they are shopping in.
When the link road is completed and that road is no longer a cul-de-sac it will have a huge impact in reducing the traffic at the Rathdown crossroads.

But there is a lot of zoned land nearby. Lidl know whats coming, even if the locals have their heads in the sand.

I agree, didn't they build a bakery on to it a couple of years ago along with most of there stores? did it increase the traffic?
Tesco did the same in the late 90's and increased the store size slightly and modernised it.

The growth of the Town is the issue and rush hour traffic/infrastructure (or lack of) this is nationwide issue with "Old Towns" at least others had the foresight to locate them on the outskirts near new developments, Charlesland would have being a better location overall.

Anyone who has a problem with this store should take a spin down to the Lidl in Gorey. The rebuild is like a new lease of life to the Lidl down there. It's brilliant. Hate going to the older style Lidls now.

They moved location in Gorey while the rebuild was going on there. Any idea if the same will be happening in Greystones? Is there even any sites that are suitable to house a Lidl that are available at the moment?

An Bord Pleanala have given the go ahead for the rebuild this week despite objections from RGDATA, a local school and FG councilor Derek Mitchell.
