So it's kind of a continuation of the below thread:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057612882

Didn't want to re-post in it just so not to piss off Shietpilot :P
Anyway the problem came back, except this time I know how to stop the engine going into limp mode.
It's perfect in all gears except 6th and by this I mean I could drive it as hard and as gentle as I want to from 1-5 without the limp mode coming back but if I pop it into 6th and I'm doing say ~2k rpms then the car goes into limp mode.
If though I'm doing 160 and put it into 6th then the issue doesn't occur.
My first thought was that the car is trolling me.
The second thought is that I'm wondering does 6th gear at low revs require much more boost than 4th/5th at the same amount of revs?
    170 Passat '07.
    Thoughts?

Quick background: car kept going into limp mode whenever I need boost. Turbo was cleaned (I don't it was at all) and then the boost solenoid was changed by another mechanic which seemed to do the trick for a bit.
Turbo is 10 months old and the car is serviced regularly.

I wasn't pissed off, just glad it was sorted... oh wait :pac:

On the issue: peak boost levels will be seen in 3rd and 4th gears. This is why remapping places always do the dyno runs in 3rd or 4th gear. I'm not sure why your issues would only happen in 6th gear.

What sort of RPM are you at when it goes into limp mode and are you pressing the accelerator down fully? The problem with a high gear like 6th would be if you were pushing the accelerator to the floor and the engine RPM is too low for the boost. I suspect the turbo actuator would be operating (moving) the vanes in order to release some boost to prevent overboost if the engine cannot take all the boost being at a low RPM. But again this is all guesswork.

You need to get it diagnosed on a computer to see what exactly is throwing it into limp mode.

EDIT: Doh! I'm blind. 2000 RPM should be plenty so I'm not sure. Get it scanned again :(

EDIT 2: But going 160 or over and switching to 6th gear doesn't cause issues? It has to be boost control related so maybe the new boost solenoid is knackered!

    This also crossed my mind.
I was in Germany yesterday so gave it the beans to see if my theory was correct and as long as the revs were close to 3k then the issue would not replicate itself.
So I could floor it all day long over 150 to max and it would not come back.
Slow down and if it was close to 2k or maybe slightly lower then boom the EML comes on.
But if it's in 5th at the exact amount of revs when i floor it then it accelerates rapidly.
It's going back in again this week so fingers crossed. Had to do the majority of my road trip in 5th gear :D

Is it an OEM boost solenoid that was put into it or a spurious one?

Tbh I'm not too sure but I suspect its a possible used vw part.

I'll update this as the problem was diagnosed and probably I'll get the car back today after 8 days at the mechanics.
So they went through the car again and this time the noticed that the manifold is leaking pressure :(
At first I thought this would be solved by a simple gasket replacement but no.
Turns out that the swirl flap rail was fcuked.
So VW wanted 700e for the part, err nah thanks.
Hopefully the second hand part will work well and end this **** once and for all.
