Eircom F2000 Alternative

    Hey,

Can anyone suggest a cheap and cheerful but reliable alternative device to replace the eircom F2000.

I'm having ongoing issues with it rebooting and kicking devices off Wi-Fi.

I'm fairly certain the F2000 is at fault but eircom won't send me out a replacement, instead repeatedly "adjusting settings" remotely and dropping the line speed. Needless to say no improvement
    Thanks!

You need VDSL2+G.Vectoring support that works which limits you to not so cheap devices. The F2000 is a well rounded unit from Huawei, I'd try and troubleshoot exactly whats going on before splashing cash to solve potentially the wrong issue.

    A. What are the nature of the drops (red int, DSL flashing, power flashing)?
    B. Post your line stats from 192.168.1.254

Thanks for the advice ED E.

Is this the stats you need, taken from DSL section of Maintain on 192.168.1.254. System log also attached

Its very hard for me to confirm what the modem is flashing when the devices on wifi drop off. By the time I get to the modem the devices have often reconnected. I'm off work for a few days so will try capture that info. I don't ever recall my pc which is hardwired dropping connection, only devices via wifi.
    DSL synchronization status:
    Up
    Connection status:
    Showtime
    Upstream line rate (kbit/s):

Seems fine, logs say stable. Attenuation is a false high but no biggie.

Have you tried using 5Ghz with most of your devices?

Not related to your post, but it should be noted that your line is capable of 70Mb. You should call up and upgrade your profile.

I'm always use 5ghz if the device support it. Our laptop is 2.4ghz and it often has real difficulty connecting, very weak signal.

My 5ghz smart phone occasionally says "unstable connection" when it is getting weak wifi connection, kicked out etc.
My phone could easily get kicked off wifi 10 times a day. Same for my wife's iphone too.

I was on 70mb profile but eircom dropped me to 50 to see if that made a difference. Needless to say it didn't.

One other thing to note if it makes any difference, the modem isn't connected to the master socket but another in the upstairs office room. The installation guy said that was fine to do and he tested it etc, but I know eircom generally say connection to master socket only.

For reference, what lights should or shouldnt be flashing on the modem? Right now the wifi light and internet seems to be flashing pretty regularly. My phone is connected to wifi and working ok with both flashing.

That ext socket is blowing your attn figure up, but rates are ok so fine to leave it there (unless you see DSL errors on the log).

Power: On - On Flashing - Firmware upgrade/boot
DSL: Flashing - Reconnecting Solid - Connected
Internet Red - Pay the bill Green - Connected Flashing -Activity
Wifi On - On Flashing - Activity

Your wifi is unreliable is the short answer. That leaves two options:
-Add a "cable" router that can be kept if you change to FTTH/HFC/GFast etc (two boxes)
-Get a VDSL specific modem/router that means just one box but you're paying a premium for a feature with a relatively short shelf life in many areas.

Thanks Ed. Great advice thanks. I'm sure you can appreciate I was getting nowhere with eir support over the phone.

So the first option, adding a cable box is is fine by me. Can you recommend what I need please?

    Thanks again.

Just curious, are Wi-Fi boosters an option?
