What's the best wearing varnish I can use for a kitchen table top, I'm going to sand it and I was wondering what the best finish would be for it.

    Any recommendations ?

If it is a solid wood tabletop I would consider using Danish Oil. A few coats the first time with a bit of gentle sanding will give you a lovely finish that will not be damaged by cuts and scrapes. Just give it another wipe over every 6 months or so.

I tried the Danish oil before but I must be have done it wrong as the oil didn't dry very well and table was easily marked afterwards

Danish Oil is no good in my opinion, especially for a kitchen table.

Just get some Ronseal Satin Varnish (1 litre should do)
Give it a few coats, sand between each coat.

I did that with mine and there are no marks on it since.
