Qandeel Baloch was killed by her brother last week in a so called Honour Killing, Here antics were frowned upon in Pakistan, they'd be nothing out of the ordinary here, she posed for a selfie with a Religious Scholar which her brother thought brought shame on the family and decided to kill her. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-36814258
ISLAMABAD: A committee comprising lawmakers from both the lower and upper houses of the parliament unanimously approved two bills on Thursday aimed at tackling honour killings and boosting rape convictions — meaning they could be voted on within weeks. http://www.dawn.com/news/1272264/parliamentary-body-unanimously-approves-bills-on-honour-killing-rape-laws

This was her latest video only released about 2 weeks ago, she was Pakistans answer to Madonna and done a lot to bring women out of the shadows. I think she'll be missed by a lot more than pakistan, glad to hear her death might save a lot more with the end of Honour Killings.

They will never stop with honor killings it's deeply routed in the culture even happens in Western countries

They enact laws, everything tends to be forgotten about, and they carry on as usual.

I was reading an article that said the local government had filed it as a crime against the state as well as against her family. Had they not done this, the family could just have forgiven the murderer (her brother) and he'd have gotten off without punishment.

An utterly absurd set of laws that seem to be set up to facililate these "Honour killings" considering they'd nearly all be committed by the victim's family. However in this case it wasn't likely to be forgiven as her parents seemed distraught and said her brother should be shot.

What sort of perverted society is it where murdering a woman is considered honour able? What twisted and inverted values leads to this?

This brute and his family should have to face daily lessons in how they have dishonoured themselves and disgraced their country.

Her family are in ribbons, she supported all of them financially even her brother. Her parents spoke to BBC http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-36858317

Well judging by the social media reactions openly celebrating this murder, they've a long way to go to changing attitudes towards honour killings

Societies that are run by religious extremists apparently. Although I would not class such as societies more like Jihadi factories.

They export about 80 million worth of goods to us every year, we've done it to South Africa and New Zeland if I remember correctly, why not Pakistan. There's a few other countries we could ad to that list as well.

Last year a couple were murdered on the steps of a court house ,

It was 32yrs ago 2 days ago Dunnes workers stood up to apartheid. Something like that can snowball and suddenly the world listens and stands by Ireland. Can't see what other hold the word has over Pakistan besides trade.

    Have you any alternative plan?

I think naturally all these places will change dramatically over the next 20yrs but the west and I think in particular western women need to do something serious about it.

It's not just her brother that has disgraced the country and their religion, it's the masses who cheered on social media.

Just shows how barbaric and stone age those people are.

The brother of a slain social media star in Pakistan said he is “proud” of killing his sister. His actions were cheered on social media

They need to get a handle on social media, if you came out with those statements here or the uk you'd be locked up.

There is no alternative plan that I can see that will stop this ,
If anything it's going to get worse over the next 20 years especially with the growth of radical Islam in the region most parts of Pakistan arent even under government control as we found out a few years ago when the Pakistani Taliban almost over ran the capital .
Its a lawless ,tribal ridden caste system where killings especially honour killings are seen as a way of life ,
This one case has people upset but what about the thousands of other honour killings that don't include social media personalities that happen every day ,week and year

I fear you are right, The Pakistani authority is really quite weak and politicians who go against the moral conservatism can expect to be assassinated. It's not jut confined to Pakistan either, Kurdish iraq is notorious for it too. But you know ireland is an example of how things can change, the Laundries and asylums were our version of it and thankfully now they are a thing of the past

It's not Islam. It happens all across the sub continent in Bangladesh, Pakistan and India. There's something very messed up about the culture over there. Their view of women as property is disgusting.

True but 91% of those who carry out an honour killing are muslim.
