    hi all,
what model ford would you suggest to move feed bales? would a 4000, or 4600 be able to lift a heavy bale?

Depends on how good the hydraulic pump is. 5000 here with assistor ram and it will lift them for feeding anyway, but a hot day bringing in fusion bales I use the fiat, there's no oil cooler on the 5000. 46' should do it ok if it's in good nick, might need a bit of ballast on front though as they are a bit shorter wheelbase.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

I would have a trailer for drawing bales but would like to have something stable to lift them around the yard. some of them bales can end up with fair weight in them!

It's all about ballast and weight at the front of small tractors when it comes to lifting heavy fusion bales. Nearly all small tractors will lift and move fusion bales with enough weight up front just ask the men still running mf135's. A 4000 or 4600 will be fine as long as it's set up right.

is the bad for the hydrolic pump for the smaller tractors to be moving these weights.

Not at all most have maximum rear lift capacities of well over the weight of even the heaviest chopped fusion bale. The 4000 for example has a rear lift capacity of 1400kg all ya have to worry about is keeping the nose down. A good weight set will do the job or my personal favourite a handy power loader up front. (Acts as a ballast but has so many other uses)

what difference does having no oil cooler make? SUrely drawing in bales is an easy enough job

When the oil gets hot it slips easier past the gears in a worn hydraulic pump.
