An obesity epidemic is upon us. I was just in Tesco doing some shopping and the fatness of some people is disgusting. It turned me off my dinner.

If the mere sight of someone shopping puts you off your dinner then I'd say you could do with missing an odd one yourself OP.

Is it really that bad though?

I mean we're hardly in motorized scooter land yet.

I see more skinny people than fat tbh.

You're supposed to be eating your dinner at home, not in Tesco.

No it was the fatness of them that put me off my dinner, I was waiting for Willy wonka and co. to come in and roll half of them out for treatment.

Have you ever watched my 600lb life OP?

Obviously it doesn't take much to turn you off food. If you think Ireland has a problem...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,719 ✭✭✭✭_Brian

whatever about adults but to see fat kids being fed further rubbish by fat parents is just awful, it's tough to witness the cycle continuing.

People just don't seem to believe that being fat is from eating too many calories and not exercising enough.

Do I hear alarms bells ringing?

Oh wait no, its the oven timer.
    Pizza's done.

    Tesco does a delivery service.

Fair enough, but it's hardly the cause of a national obesity problem.

Life is easier if your not so judgmental, stick a pic of yourself up here for a bit of a critique..

The thing is that its difficult to perceive things objectively.

As the population gets flabbier our perception of what's healthy and normal changes; instead we make our judgements based on what's average.

I.e. we're a lot fatter and less healthy than we think we are.

Where we really run into problems is when the we start to think of this as reflecting on self worth.

If you were hungry enough you'd eat it. Half the world starving and you're here moaning about missing your falafel or foie gras or whatever the pretentious classes eat these days. I have no sympathy for you.

I work in a supermarket and there are more than a few of those things around the place. Mostly old people using them though.

If at all possible, people using this thread should use the expression "big-boned" rather than "obese" or "chubby" to avoid offending those citizens who have attained their own gravitational field.

It's the shops and supermarkets they have too much niceties on display and make them easily assessable. I remember when you had to ask for what you wanted in shops from outside the counter also there was no rubbish food in shops back then unlike the rubbish they have now.

Is it shaming to point out the truth?

the country's leading obesity expert Professor Donal O'Shea said that there's been an absolute explosion in the extreme end of obesity, with a 1,200pc increase in those with a body mass index of 52 or over (18 to 25 is normal).

Neither proud nor ashamed. It's not useful - it's only gratifying to the accuser.

Very few people respond well to being belittled, especially something like cutting fat that takes a long time and consistent effort.

If someone is unhappy about their weight then they're already giving themselves a hard time about it. Making them even less happy won't help, it'll just make them give up.

I dunno where these areas with all the fatties are, because I see few enough in my neck of the woods. The odd podgy beer belly alright, but actually American level obese? Extremely rarely. Like can't remember last time I spied one in the wild rarely.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

How perfect you must be, imagine someone looking at your ugly mug and being put off their dinner, or your manky teeth or spotty face, that's body shaming.

Ha, no they're not giving themselves a hard time about it, not the ones hanging out in the cake aisle in Tesco anyway, they were loading the trolleys with no shame.

Building up fat takes a long time and consistent effort. If it was pointed out them when they'd gained a few it would be better for them, instead of waiting until they're half a ton before taking action.

Hopefully Pokemon Go will help fat kids shed a few pounds.

Why are we so fat, because we a bad diet based around bread and over processed food. We are very car dependent and its more socially acceptable to be fat in Ireland in comparison with other European countries.
