Job contract question

    My company has changed my work contract regarding my healthcare without a mutual agreement between us. Now they want me to sign a company headed letter to confirm the receipt of the letter and that I read and understood it's contents. The change is a worldwide change within the company. I have refused to sign the letter as they are going ahead with the changes anyway. The have set up a meeting with me to ask me to sign have I the right to refuse.

    You don't have to do anything you don't want to. Contrary to the belief of many HR departments slavery has been abolished.

    That said you would be better off either seeking proper advice and dealing with it quietly or just getting on with it if you're not willing to fight it/take proper advice.

    No reason not to sign the letter if it just confirms receipt of a 'proposed change to your contract'

    I would add a note saying you have read the proposed change but are not accepting it before signing it.

    Employers cannot change terms of employment at will in this country, however, in reality, you also need to consider how long you have been employed by them and the financial benefit to you of fighting this vs what they deem is a justifiable cost to cut non compliant staff.

    A solicitor with employment law experience is your best bet, they would need to see your current contract and the letter and given your tenure can advise what is possible.
