I only started using Adverts.ie in 2012 so I've no idea what it was like during the Celtic Tiger years but regularly bought the B&S from 2000-7.

Here's some memorable examples from 2002-2008

    typical B&S adverts
    Computers

    Dell LCD 15 €300
(Remember buying a Dell XPS 420 in 2007 and the guy on the phone was desperately trying to sell me a monitor for €150 with it saying it would sell for more than double on buy and sell)

    Lexmark Printer No Ink €60
(it cost €30 in Tesco new)

    Mobile phones
    Nokia 3310 €100 no charger
(at the time 2002/3 they were €59-80 new)

    Nokia 6210 €800
(€250-300 on Meteor at launch in 2001/2, i bought one but Meteor didn't come here in my area for weeks)

    Wanted/Freebies
    Free lcd tv/monitor
    Free cars
    Free phones
There was even one ad looking for a free house in Cork city back in 2005 ffs

You (B&S advertiser) were all greedy ******* lol

If people weren't stupid enough to pay at these prices, then there wouldn't be people greedy enough to try and sell.

I agree but remember back in those years not many people outside of the major towns had broadband. Most banks only offered Laser cards. Buy and Sell was really one of the first places they went if they needed something.

    It was, you said, 2002-2007.

We live rurally and had sufficient internet access then to buy online. We also had plenty of options aside from Buy and Sell back then. In fact many of us never used Buy and Sell at all.
Chancers took a punt and fools paid them. It still happens and happened outside of Buy and Sell as well.

You could buy a CD burner on boards for a fiver at that time, from what I remember.

My brother used to buy the Buy & Sell for farm machinery. It was a great place to pick up deals. This was back in the mid-late 1990s, it was printed in a horrible, garish yellow; very cheap looking.

I used it for finding pen-pals, and I bought a nice lively teaser pony from it once for 200 pounds. Best pony I ever sat on.

My brother got the ride too, he met a girl off it! Her name was Elaine. She had crimped, peroxide hair and chain-smoked.

It was like Tinder that way. Tinder, but with farm machinery and livestock.

Was it actually a cigarette lighter?
