Scratching holes & Obtaining handicap ?

Just played my first two rounds of my golf club to attain my handicap, boy its tough! though i finished 16 shots better on the second round.

in regards to scratching holes does the same rule apply in obtaining your handicap as it does updating it? eg i scored an embarrassing 12 on a par 4 (2 lost balls! & a further 3 holes were 5 over par also ) so should i put down my score as 12 or scratch the hole to a double bogey?

Put down the full score. The club will then adjust it. That is my understanding anyway!

Yes, as frink said, always put down your fulls score no matter how high it is. The handicap secretary will adjust it back when calculating you handicap.

Remember as well, we all started somewhere too so don't be worried about big numbers, we all have them!

All your loopy scores will be adjusted back to a double bogey, don't worry about your high scores, enjoy yourself

Well mad scores can't be adjusted back to a dbl as with a shot..... It still gives a point

For handicap, I imagine mad scores are adjusted back to a tripple, though on hard holes, that still gives high handicappers a point

All scores back to a double bogey AFAIK, so if he shoots a 12 on every hole, he will be adjusted back to 18 double bogeys for 18 points

Having satisfied the requirements for membership of a Club, CONGU® requires that to get a handicap a player must submit cards from 54 holes of golf, marked by a person approved by the Club. The rounds must be played at that Club over a measured course and may consist of any mix of 9 hole or 18 hole cards, though the preference is for 3 x 18 hole scores. The Club will then adjust the returned scores, so that a lady never records more than 3 over par and a man never more than 2 over par on any individual hole.
