Social Media Content liability

    Hey

    So long story short..

I work for a multinational retail company. They want each retail store to set up a Facebook pages(on our own time).

So each store assistant manager is the set up a page. Put up content and promote the store. It's a health food/alternative health shop. So a lot of the stuff we sell isn't backed up by robust scientific evidence or studies.

So my fear is, if I set up such a page, and it got hacked, or I posted content that was wrong, would I be the person potentially liability, if a lawsuit was to occur(very unlikly, but still possible).

The account would have to be set up via my own personal Facebook account too, so it would be linked straight back to me.

Any help on the potential pitfalls of such an endeavour would be greatly appreciated...

This is all hypothetical as I have not set up such a page.

    Mod:

The OP asks a question about liability. However commentary about liability is legal advice and is absolutely not allowed.

This thread can remain open for the time being but I don't see how discussion can get very far.

Ok can I rephrase, if the page was set up, if there was an liability would it be on the company or the individual who runs the page...it's hypothetical as such a page doesn't exist

Should one be surprised that a firm are asking employees to promote their products thru Facebook?

What kind of multinational would risk so many stores doing so many individualized marketing projects without supervision or legal support?

    It's a minefield for a large corporation.

The facebook page may be hypothetical but the scenario which has been outlined is not.

I know, but it's not being pushed by the head of the company, just some middle managers, people who run regional levels, the company made profits of 130 million last year in Ireland. Just to give you a guide

Ok but the situation hasn't happened yet, it's effectively just an idea at the moment.

If you set up a page, promote a product claiming health benefits and someone suffers adverse effects as a result. I think it's fairly obvious someone will come after you. However if you're concerned seek proper legal advice. Amazed though an employer will ask an employee to take on a task like this.
