Transgender process - what next??

    Hey all,
So I've recently come to terms with the fact that I am in fact transgender, have only come out to a few close friends and my dad and so far the support has been nothing short of amazing. Phew! Hopefully that sets the precedent for the rest of my 'journey'.
Anyways, so I've been trawling round the Internet reading up on people's experiences and how they went about going through with this and I'm a little confused. I'm aware I'm going to need counselling and a good support network and all of that, but like where do I even begin.. It all seems very daunting.
I found the name of a therapist near me in Galway who specialises in this sort of thing so I'm guessing my first step is to get into contact with her and arrange a session. Is it right to assume that this is the person who will, for lack of a better word, 'diagnose', me with Gender Dysphoria after a set number of sessions and set me up for hormone treatment with a doctor or will I have to clarify that with a GP first as I have also seen having to talk with a GP or doctor as the first port of call being mentioned.
Thanks in advance to any responses :)

    Hi,

    Have been where you are

Hmmm... in Galway... looking for a diagnosis?

Nope, not sure there is anywhere here you will get a proper evaluation( not when I was looking anyhow ). There are a few therapists and general psychiatrists in the Galway area, but general psychiatrists are not the best place to start and a therapist can't diagnose you as that's not their role.

So you really wanna stop messing around and get in touch with a place that is well known and is usually first port-of-call in these scenarios

Your best bet for a specialist diagnosis is to contact insight matters in Dublin (do a google) - you wanna speak to Anne Marie Toole and hopefully Dr. James Kelly - that should be your next step - in my honest opinion

    Okay,

    Well, good luck.

Hi Ruckus514 my son is going through this at the moment and for him the first port of call was the GP the GP will then set you up with a counsellor who will then set you up with one of the few doctors that can prescribe hormone treatment it all takes a bit of time so in the meantime if you like you can think about changing your name by deed poll and explore your new fashion and hair styles.

    Wishing you all the best.
