So a little over a month ago now I got a call from a company in response to an application I'd sent in for a management-level job. The HR guy I spoke to was very impressed with my CV (as was the hiring manager he said) and had a very good chat with him at the end of which he asked if I'd do a phone call with the manager a few days later.

I of course agreed and 20 minutes later I got a call asking if I'd come in to see them the following week instead.. sounded very positive to me anyway so I again agreed.

Did the interview and came out thinking that went very well (answered everything they asked, built a bit of a rapport with them, they even wanted me to meet a director but he wasn't available at the time). A call from the HR guy a week later confirmed this - they were very impressed, it was down to me and one other and he'd be in touch within a few days with next steps (a second/final interview).

Just over a week later I get a call saying the hiring manager had been off sick but that again he'd be in touch to arrange the details in a few days... fair enough I thought.

Last week then with still no word I called and left a voicemail asking if there was any update or feedback... nothing since.

Normally I'd just let it go but they seemed so keen and it seemed to go so well that I'm actually pretty disappointed at this stage as I really want the job. If they just haven't gotten around to closing it out, or they've gone with someone else (although the job is still live on their own and other sites) then fair enough - but the silence is frustrating.

So... another week later do I mail/call them again this week and ask if there is any news, or just forget it and move on at this stage?

Send a mail, no harm. You took the time to interview the least they could do is respond. If they were keen they'd have made contact with you since so i wouldn't be too confident of landing the role.

Looking from the outside in it appears as though they have chosen someone else but should that offer not reach fruition then you would be in.

There could have been a hiring freeze

_Kaiser_, I'm assuming all your contact has been with the agency and not with the employer directly. Unless you have spoken to someone in the agent's office, I wouldn't make any assumptions about the reasons you haven't been able to make direct contact. Are you sure the person you were dealing with is still working there? Could they be off sick or on AL?
Definitely follow up, and keep doing so until you get a definitive response either way.

No it was with the employer directly (I'm not a fan of agencies generally to be honest - if they don't place you on the first attempt they lose all interest in my experience).

Anyway, curiosity did get the better of me so I fired off an email yesterday and got an out of office till next week reply so that may explain the silence as presumably they were off last week as well.

So the waiting game continues but I've done all the chasing on it I'm going to now.. if they want me they know where I am :)

    Its the summer time.
Lots of people are away on leave and it can be difficult to get decisions made.

Oh I know well how that goes myself, but surely it's not too much to send someone a quick update - even if it is just "haven't forgotten about this.. just trying to get sign off but people are on AL"
