Wow, this completely passed me by. If it's half as good as Mask of the Phantasm (arguably the best Batman movie), it'll be really good.

Sadly no chance I'd get out there on monday, will have to wait for home release.

This is the release! No one has seen it!

I think it's based on the graphic novel:

I don't know much except that friends who I think are really into comics like it

The Killing Joke is a superb storyline and the fact Mark Hamill (People see him as Luke, i see him as Joker) is voicing The Joker means this will be very good!

It also has Kevin Conroy voicing Batman. He's voiced that role in cartoons forever. He's great at it.

The trailer for this looked brutal and pretty low budget.

Saw it tonight. Not bad, but not great.

    IMHO, it
spends far, far too much time farting about with Barbara Gordon/Batgirl in the opening 30 minutes, when it really should cut to the chase.

It's strange, these animated Batman things leave me real cold. I'm not entirely sure why.

    30min story stretched to 70..
    Poor ending. 4/10

I thought it was very good, although I am a huge fan of the darker animated Batman stuff. Not quite as well scripted as Mask of the Phantasm, but even darker. Yeah, the opening Batgirl half hour was quite extended, but I presume its intention was to lay down the background of obsession and madness to the characters, as opposed to just ploughing straight in with the Joker. Conroy and Hamill ace it again - Hamill's voice is deeper than the older works but still exceptionally well casted.

Was afraid of this, the comic is great but it's very very short.

All of the Batman animated movies are shot like that from an animation perspective. However AFAIK this is the first one to get a theatrical release.

I'm not a fan per se of animations however I was made watch Batman Year One and after The Dark Knight it is IMO one of the best adaptations of Batman we seen.

Mask of the Phantasm got a theatrical release as well IIRC. Very well worth seeing - some of the best dialogue of any Batman film, animated or otherwise.

Year One, Red Hood, Mask of Phantasm & The Dark Knight Returns were all good tbf. But this was awful weak stuff.
As you said they screwed up the first 30 minutes with the lame Paris Franz villain. Barbara was one dimensional & the romantic story with Batman was creepy above anything & added nothing to the story.
Not a great movie tbh & I liked the book. I always wanted them to make a Long Halloween movie but I hope they don't now.

Saw it this evening. Thought it was alright.

The whole cinema event felt dedicated to the comic readers and fans of the animated DC universe.

Mark Hamill interviews were a nice touch.

But that is the exact opposite of what they did. The actual comic adaptation takes about 25-30 minutes at the end of the movie. The first 40 or so minutes are spent on the additional Batgirl story arc.

Worst animated DC film I've ever watched, very disappointing.......
Ending was ridiculous, zero sense of climax, left feeling empty

Just watched it, it was pretty poor. It's not too bad once it gets into the actual plot of The Killing Joke but that first section with Batgirl was absolute rubbish. The only redeeming parts were lifted straight from the book but everything was dragged down by the stuff they added in. Should have just made a short.

The decisions made re. The batgirl story were painful.
I don't get why they chose the love struck puppy and awkward morning after crap to define her and her relationship with batman, and therefore partially define batman's later need to take down joker.

The first half of the movie seemed to be disconnected from the second, and after all the crimes the Joker committed it felt wrong that Batman laughed with the Joker in the end, it did not make Batman seem noble just misguided to feel sorry for a mass murder.
