I brought a ewe to the vet who was blind, dull and not standing. The vet diagnosed Pneumonia on Friday. She has fully recovered except for the blindness. I will ring the vet in the morning to see if anything can be done. Does anyone know if they regain sight or is it time to put her out of her misery. Thanks

they usually recover, hold the eyelids open & spray blue alamycin spray in the eye, a couple of times a day

had 50 to 60 blind 2 years ago, no option but to house them

We'd a blind ewe for years. She always had the best lamb and got on fine. She was able to stay with the flock.
The alamycin spray might work it depends on what caused the blindness. We had about 20 2 years ago too and the alamycin cured them. Don't know what it was about that year with so many but there was something going around.

Try some multi-vitamin injections. Won't do any harm.

Ive seen that blue alamycin spray do as much damage to the eye as good to be honest. The eye can shrivel up and they go blind permanently.
A drop of engemycin from a syringe into the eye is a much better way doing it.
(Just to be clear that is to clear up pinkeye)

to me it doesn't sound like pink eye (pink bloodshot eye, weeping etc)
I second the multivitamin. if she doesn't come right she'll learn to cope

Yeah I got it today. Will give to her for the next few days. Vet gave a multi vitamin injection. Surely a fully blind ewe would die from lack of water or feed over winter.
