Time to say goodbye to my M8

I love my M8. Hands down best phone I've ever owned, with the exception of 16GB being too tight now.

Camera has now starting acting up, so it's time to retire it.

Am on Vodafone so can't get M10, and from what I hear I should avoid M9. So where next?

Natural destinations seem to be S7 (which would cost 85 euro), or S7 Edge (215 euro).

Is Edge really worth 130 euro extra?
Any other handset I should consider?

Would you consider the Oneplus 3 at this stage it's up there mostly with the latest flagships and delivered is only €400

Recently got an iPhone 6s Plus for €970 myself and seriously thinking returning it and getting the OP3 and saving myself a nice chuck of cash

Firstly, I was in the same boat a few months back, loved my HTC One M8 but wanted to upgrade. Got the S7 Edge which wipes it's arse with the HTC. Unbeliveable phone, easily the best phone on the market. It's an animal. Can't really speak for the normal S7, but I love the edge screen, doesn't do much more but it looks absolutely phenomenol. A real head turner. But that's about it..

Secondly, you'll be paying a lot more than €215 for it. I know the advantages of buying it with a contract, but you save a lot buying it outright if you can afford it at all.

Is the edge worth an extra €130? Depends completely on you're preference. For me yes, whereas others might see it as a complete waste of money.

Thanks. Should have said contract is not an issue. Employer pays everything (except handset upgrade), so prices above would be my total out of pocket costs.

I'm in the exact same position myself but I'm with 3. I looked at Vodafone but I couldn't believe how over priced terrible plans were. Few gb for 50 quid a month is brutal.

Saying that, I'm in Dublin where the 3 coverage is great.

I'm tired of HTC and every Samsung I see has always a far better screen contrast than any HTC I've ever had. So I'm leaning towards the S7, only thing I'd prefer about the latest usb C charger that can get you 50 odd percent in 30 minutes charging.

    First World problems

The fast charging wouldn't be too far off that. Would be charged in no time.. My phone is on 20% exaclty now, saying it'll take 1 hour 22 mins to full charge.

I had a chat with someone in the phone mending business recently and they were of the opinion that the Edge is very easy to damage and very hard to fix. Apparently the curve of the screen is making it more susceptible to breaking.

Also very expensive to fix if it's not insured. My friend just had to have hers replaced after her daughter dropped it and it was something like €320 for the edge screen. If it had been the standard S7 it would have been €150.

When weighing up Sammy vs HTC, there is several positives to each (my opinion, of course), and a few things that are about the same.

    Wins for Sammy:
    - Waterproofing
    - Wireless charging
    - VR (if that interests you)
    - Health features. HR monitor etc nice additions.

    Wins for HTC:
    - Audio. Top notch from headphones, and better on the loud speaker.
    - Sense much better than Touchwiz (no matter how much Sammy try, it's still not there). HTC themes much more flexible than Samsung equivalent. Samsung even lock down the installation of unpaid fonts.
    - Way better development if you're into modding your phone.
    - Fingerprint sensor. So much better when it's not an actual clicky button.
    - Button placement. Why much Sammy put back on the right?

    Pretty much even
    - Screen. Personally I prefer LCD, although amoled blacks are awesome. Edge screen seriously overrated.
    - Camera. Both great.
    - Quick charging. Not a huge difference between the two.
