Here is a link for the Department of Foreign Affairs site regarding travel to Turkey and support contacts for those there. I hasten to add it has not been updated yet but with the coup only in it's infancy I'd guess it will be updated at some point...

I was just going to ask about this - 3 chinese friends are traveling to London (then Ireland) on Tuesday 19th !! via Istanbul. They have never flown internationally so will not understand such things , not that i do myself

BUt I am wondering what happens - is there any possibility the flights are re-arranged to a different city/country etc ?

I do not mean to be insensitive about the bigger picture of what might happen in Turkey, but two of these travellers are in their 60's and I am wondering - when they ask me - is there any way their trip might be rescued

Flights should be mostly back to normal by tomorrow (Sunday) should the government keep power.

i see finally on turkish airlines that todays flight diverted to izmir

    tomorrow is cancelled

    18th is showing no change

19th (the chinese people's flight) not showing yet) _ iguess they just go with the original plan

they also flashed up the attached but the english is poor
I think it says it IS back to routine ??

They were back to normal really quickly a couple of weeks ago after bombs at the airport so I'd say a minor thing  like a thwarted coup would be even less disruptive.

EDIT/ A friend of mine who's in Istanbul says word locally is that Turkish Airlines flights should be back to normal tomorrow with some delays. In fact Turkish Airlines flights have already resumed?
