Does anybody know where a good place to get reasonably cheap tools for a one-off DIY project is. I live in Kildare but can drive to Dublin if worth my while. I need normal hand tools like a stapler, hammer, screwdriver, drill bits, screws etc so buying expensive good quality stuff for a one-off thing seems like a big waste of cash

    Thanks for yer help

Probably no need to drive into Dublin, just pop into your local hardware shop and they should have what you need.

My local hardware does have what i need but they have the more expensive stuff. Stuff that you would buy and keep for a long time. When I lived in Spain they have a store there that is called Leroy Merlin which is a huge store that you can buy really cheap stuff for DIY. They had some of the big brands too but then they had cheaper ones.

Lidl or Aldi usually have some offers on tools.

IKEA do basic tool sets which are OK for what it sounds like you want.

Lidl have a DIY offer on now, they come up every couple of weeks.

    http://www.lidl.ie/en/Offers.htm?id=835

Cheap and cheerful but OK for what you are describing.

Aldi stuff is slightly better quality sometimes but more often than not it's the same.

There is a Lidl about 5km from where I live so will go pick some stuff up. Will they have all these products in store do you think or does everything on the website not always correlate with what is in store? I hardly ever shop at lidl so thanks for your help!

Aldi and Lidl do weekly "special offers", could be hammers one week, staplers another, saws on another. So you are unlikely to pick up a complete tool kit in one go. Although once or twice a year they do have basic tool kits. The information on their websites is usually up to date if the tools you want are not there, then they won't be in the shop either. Woodies and B&Q both carry a range of tools from cheap to expensive.

There are two near me, they generally have everything in-store (some of the smaller town center ones don't I believe) but sometimes it will sell out quick.

It's a great marketing ploy.. I have stuff I never opened that I bought 'just in case' :D

Just about to post that about expert.
Basic enough stuff but value at €10 for the lot.

Is that offer in all Expert Hardware's or just the Naas branch?

Also, is there a Mr Price near you, or a big pound shop? Mr Price in Carlow has a big wall full of cheap tools.
