    Hi,

Looking for a usable pair of budget android tablets for the purposes of headrest mounted screen..

Do not have to be super high spec but would require the following

7in display of a reasonable standard
    WIFI and Support Miracast
    Bluetooth

    Anyone got any suggestions?

    Whats your budget?

How about an Amazon Kindle Fire? £49.99 for the 8GB version.

Actually I'm not even sure that Miracast will allow me to reliably do what I want..

Anyone got any expierence of mirroring android tablets..

i.e. play a movie on one and mirror it on/stream it to another

That's hard to argue with really..

Would it have the grunt for miracast?

Another option would be a basic display with HDMI in?

    More information would be nice.

Is this for watching movies? Do you want to be able to remotely control them? Or do you want them to be "dumb" terminals which just play whatever is coming from the media player? Or is there additional functionality you want?

    movies for the kids...

I think dumb terminals will suffice... and an android pc with a hdmi out split between the two screens as the controller would be enough.

don't think there would be a need for additional functionality..

Are the kids old enough to start the movies themselves? It would be a lot easier in many ways to just watch the movie off the tablet with no streaming etc. Plus it means they dont have to both watch the same movie.

They're not really. Still a bit young. Plus it adds a bit of parental control to what they are watching.

Is that really a problem though, if you're putting these in the car? If they're too young to control the tablets themselves, just get a couple of cheap ones, load 'em up with as many episodes of Peppa Pig as you can handle + VLC, put them in airplane mode and off you go?

I was still assuming you would be loading the videos onto the SD card which keeps the parental control aspect. The Fire comes with a carousel as its "homepage" which has its content. Fill both tablets with the content, and all they have to do is tap the first item in the carousel and press play. Or you can do that before you set off, and set it to load the next item in the menu automatically.

I'll do some googling, but I think thats the easiest solution.

    You might be right

I've been a bit taken aback by the cost of a 7 - 9 inch screen with a hdmi input...:D

It is surprising that you can get a quad-core, fully functional tablet for less than just a 7" monitor. And yes, everyone would love a Dashboard mounted console where you can stop and start the movies playing behind you but sometimes the most elegant solution is also the easiest.

yeah - the only thing I'd be sad to lose would be the synchronized viewing when they are a little older

Sychronised viewing when they get older will turn into a pain very quickly "But I dont wanna watch Peppa Pig. I want to watch Frozen!(again)"

I know what you are saying though. Let me think about this. I'll be back to you.

I got my kids the kids version of the Fire tablets and they are great, really durable with plenty of content and have a 2 year no quibble warranty.

The only thing that doesn't work are the movies (geo blocked ) but the games/ apps and books work.
For films they use Netflix in the kids profile

Just an wallpaper ad on the locked screen, non intrusive . And not on the kids version

But they can still play local videos right? And videos streamed to them?

Say 20 euro for the case,2 year warranty , modified OS. Well worth it, in saying that I got 2 for the kids and a regular one for me for 140 during one if the Amazon sales.
