Hi, I was just wondering are their any decent irish stockbrokers with low fees (mantienance, charge per trade etc) that sell US shares? I was looking to buy and hold shares in a few NYSE listed companies.

Degiro??? Not an Irish broker, a Dutch one, but they operate in Ireland. You won't find cheaper.

I've recently (today!) got my account going with Degiro. I was hoping to buy into a few different junior gold miners (ETC's) but can't find almost any of them listed in Degiros.

A Dublin based company called TD Direct Investing will be my next port of call instead. €20 per transaction but at least they seem to have all the ETC's (or at least the ones I'm looking to invest in). They also offer certificates of sale which apparently Degiro don't do. Maybe someone else could confirm that?

Go with degiro .. it's odd but don't click the ETF tab

Just go to quick buy and write in the ETF symbol and it will find it that way like an ordinary stock.

Be careful re of gold ETF right now they are at the hign end of a rally.

Hi all, I am looking to buy shares in companies not ETFs. maybe in the future I may buy some ETFS but for now just stocks. I will probably go with degiro they sound pretty reasonable with their rates..

I think the only way to hold us shares is through a nominee account in Ireland..
The risk there is that the broker could go under and you are not the owner of the shares, only the beneficial owner.
If liquidators ended up coming to the brokers door then you could be screwed.

You'd want to be looking at the established brokers in that case and the fees will be higher as a result but there's the knowledge that the likelihood of them going bust is miniscule. CREST afaik are UK based? Is there a CREST equivalent for Irish residents that deal on the US exchanges where you are the owner of the shares and appear on the shareholder registry?

The fees for me on US stocks currently are 14.99 per trade and 25 for a custody charge, plus the stamp duty which is low enough
    That's for buying and selling.
I try to keep the entry charge under 1.5% so that means looking at circa 3k to do so.
I'm a long term buy and hold investor so I take the above as simply the price of assurity.

Degiro lets you buy US listed shares for 2.00 per trade I now that is cheap and they have only been around since '08. I have signed up for an account with them just now. In the long run I will probably set up with a US based broker. I follow the whole buy and hold idea as well.

Tried that search method alright but no joy. For example, can you find "Barsele" (bme.v) at all on degiro?

Yep, won't be buying into gold miners unless we see a pullback in the next while.

Just had a look there. No can't find bme.v on it. It's from Canada stock exhaust and it's supposed to support Canada so very strange.

But for USA stock or any ETf I have no issues whatsoever.

What do ye think of Barrick Gold (NYSE:ABX) I had it in my trial account on Google finance bought for $8.33 now worth 21.47 a share (157.74% gain) do you think it would still be a good buy or is it an over-valued stock? is their a bubble in the mining industry?

Thanks for checking. Unfortunately a few of the companies I'm looking at are Canadian and not handled on Degiro it seems. Some of them show up "CAD" as the share price (Orex Minerals (rex.v), for example).

Why don't you want to use a US broker?
    Hard to beat DeGiro though.

Kust looked , That is gone. There is no support left . all sign point to a downward slope unless you want to short it.

Yeah was thinking the same, is most of your money invested in ETFs or do you stock pick as well?

    Not €2, €0.5.
