Glass scratch repair

There's a twelve inch scratch in my windscreen. The previous owner told me that a price of stone caught in the wiper blade and it was dragged across the windscreen.

It seems fairly deep in places. I've gone at it twice with glass polish I have (Turtle Wax glass polish) but it hasn't improved it at all.

Is it possible to machine polish a scratch out of a windscreen? I've googled some of the windscreen repair companies and they only refer to crack and chip repairs, so I'm wondering if I can be done?

Id say no... I had very similar situation with my car.. Detailer spent hours trying to polish out but couldn't.. Only option is to replace windscreen

Light hazing and light scratching can be removed or improved on returning clarity. Deeper and it can take a lot of effort. The main issue being that with too much heat generated, the is a risk of warping the glass slightly which will distort the view out the window.

I have often repaired scratched windscreens with a D/A and CarPro Creiglass which is a cerium oxide polish specifically for glass.

I also sprayed cold water on the screen first which absorbs a lot of the heat generated therefore greatly reducing the risk of warping the glass which as Curran said, is a real possibility.

Detailing Shed sell CarPro Ceriglass along with a hand-polishing block. This might be of use to you but it will take a lot longer than using a D/A.
