Have you ever contacted your local councilor for assistance with a planning objection

I have some concerns with a proposed development and considering contacting my local councilors. Has anyone every used this approach before and how many councilors did you contact. Is it worth the time and energy in terms of how much influence do they have in the decision making process?

IMO it's a waste of your time. The planner will make the decision - councillor has no meaningful input unless it can be brought to a vote in the chamber (Section 140) but these are almost exclusively used to push planning applications through rather than block them.

Employ a good consultant who knows the local development plan and can help you write an observation pointing out where the proposed development goes against the guidelines in the plan.

I hired a consultant in relation to the planning objection however part of the application includes an area of land (car park) which is under public ownership.

The owner of the property applied for retention of this land which was refused however it's now included in the planning application as part of the development. Even further, a previous application which was refused on the basis that they need to provide proof of ownership of this land but the application was resubmitted with one sentence stating that members of the public can check the ownership themselves on www.landdirect.ie. I then checked land direct and went to the PRA and there is no freehold registered on that piece of land. I also wrote to DCC separately and they stated that the issue was statute barred and there was nothing they could do...

This, except planners make recommendations, not decisions.

    +1

Local Planner recommended that the LA grant permission for my friends house recently, Senior position (that does not know the area or lay of the land) overruled it and issued a refusal.

I hired a consultant to deal with the planning objection however the planning authority does not deal with items that are statute barred, allegedly.

Then seek legal advice, if that's the issue
