Walking Lanes? Should walking and texting be made illegal too?

How often do you have to weave through dense flocks of pedestrians who are prepared to walk into you or walk over you especially those morons with phones and other hand held devices who seem determined to crash into you?
Why do we allow tourists to link arms and advance in a phalanx ten deep?
    Shouldn't we have walking lanes?

    Shouldn't something done?

I think we have enough rules for people to break already.

Absolutely, but only for other people;)

But the government are spending all the money on cycle lanes, neglecting the much-needed texting lanes.

In some countries, they have the pedestrian crossing lights on the ground.

We should have a new law to prevent any more stupid new laws being enacted.

How do you expect me to stay in a lane while I'm looking at my phone?

There is no one to enforce the rules or laws that already exist and you want more rules!

Need to be taught in school how to look at their phone and be aware of their peripheral vision.

Far be it from me to say anything positive, but I find people in Ireland to be pretty good at not hogging the sidewalk. At least, relative to the other places i have visited.

    It's a new dance craze I think.

We don't need laws to cover this. A good firm shoulder as you pass does the job.

Bonus points if they fall over.

So you think that others should avoid them ? just for future reference when the world is revolving around these clowns what was does it spin

There should definitely be slow and fast lanes. I hate getting stuck behind someone waddling along and I cant pass them because there are people coming the opposite direction on the other side.

Ok so, shoulder barge them, trip them, slap the phone out of their hand, give them a little nudge into traffic. There are clearly no consequences for them walking without looking where they're going.

Got stuck this morning by a human-train of the Italian & Spanish students. Pack of slow-moving, arm-linking cnuts.

First they took the buses. And I said nothing.
Now they take our pavements. Still I say nothing.

They are also world champions at standing in doorways.

Shoe tax, rate to be decided by shoe size unless you were born from 2008 onwards then it will be decided by dietary emissions.

    We need the following lanes:
    Walking Lanes
    Running Lanes
    On Mobile device Lanes
    People with Buggy/Pram Lanes
Cyling lanes for people that have the bicycle with the giant bucket in the front for their kids
People eating food/drinking coffee in the morning Lanes
    Tourist Lanes
    Those mini Scooter Lanes
And while we're at it we should probably get a Lesbian Lane, Straight Lane, Gay Lane, Bisexual Lane and a Transgender Lane

If we get all those lanes set up in some sort of complicated one way system I think we'll f**k up transport in the Big Schmoke once and for all

Yes it's irritating but I'm not going to go postal just yet and shove the phone where it needs to be surgically removed. Don't want to end up like this pr1ck - Executive punches cyclist for riding on footpath

Motorists don't stop at pedestrian crossings in this country. That is how I am going to die.

We should clamp people who walk and text or make them tie their shoe laces together. Yea that would work.

    :)

If you're a cyclist you're allowed call them "footpads" as well.

Wedges for all people walking and texting.

People should "pull in" when texting but I have little time for people complaining about slow walkers in general.

I know so many people who have complained about slow walkers that I have then observed slow walking themselves. Everybody, absolutely everybody walks slow at one time or another for a multitude of reasons. The person who has suddenly slowed their pace right in front of you might rarely do that. Distraction, panicking about something, getting a sudden pain, all of these things can cause someone to ease up their pace or to maintain a slow pace even if it's not something they usually do.

You have no idea why the person ahead of you is walking slowly. As someone who has been beset by a number of serious health conditions at a young age, I am very aware now that the person walking slowly ahead of you may have a very good reason too, no matter how young they look.

Yes, there are unaware gobdaws around but such is life. You've likely been the gobdaw yourself on more than one occasion. I used to complain about slow walkers when I was a selfish, self-centred teenager. Then I grew the fúck up. Give yourself plenty of time to get where you are going and slow-walkers shouldn't be an issue at all.

    It's called Dublin County Counsel:

Personally I think that there is some merrit in the idea of a slow lane or Hard shoulder on the footpath for the elderly, women nattering, Spanish students, strolling couples and people with their heads burried in a smart phone. One which I can shove any of the above out of my way into as I walk at a brisk pace towards where I'm headed.

Yep, walk with your fly or blouse open, with requisite hardware exposed, even both if appropriate.
