Moto G 3rd gen €99 in Tesco

Was in Tesco in Wilton earlier and saw they had a few 3rd gen Moto G behind the customer service counter for 99 quid down from 139. None on display or priced anywhere else in the store. More than likely the 8gb model.

great phone for that price imo. A step up from other phones at that price point.

Just wondering if this will lock to whatever SIM is inserted first like the Xperia E that were there before.

I'd imagine so, all moto g phones are. Plus the phone is in the orginal motorola box and not a tesco mobile one.

Would love if anybody posts if they get one in a Dublin store.

Asked in the Finglas store only to be told they don't do Motorola phones anymore.

I got one last week for €109 in the Meteor online store. Not quite €99, but still excellent value, and the offer is still available up until end July or while stocks last. The list price on Meteor is €139, but if you use voucher code METEOR30 you get a €30 discount that they have with Supervalu. No need to go into store - the deliver next day. Proper 4G network too, unlike Tesco.

does the code only work for the moto g?

But the meteor phone would presumably be locked to the meteor network? But the tesco option sounds sim free... for cheaper

Going traveling soon and was looking at getting a phone with some kind of water resistance.

Meteor Moto g phones lock to the network of the first sim that's inserted into it so if that's a tesco one it'll lock to tesco.

Are you 100% sure about this ?

I want to get one for a 48 sim . 48 are on the O2 network ,as is Tesco afaik .

Do you think I would be good to go ?

    Thanks.

I do know that Meteor lock phones with their own codes and you have to get the unlock code from Meteor as the manufacturer codes will not work . Meteor are bastard$ when it comes to looking for unlock codes.

Independent retail models don't, unless that's changed with the newer gens?

I got a Meteor one, one sim only. Locked to the first sim I put in it. Three in my case.

Moto G locks to the first sim inserted.

Tesco & 48 run on the old O2 network which is currently being decommissioned by Three. It used to be ok once upon a time before the Three takeover, but is deteriorating by the day and was never upgraded for 4G.

Meteor have good deals if you look carefully including free EU roaming on bill-pay. Since everyone gets 400 free texts using the MyMeteor app, there is no need to buy a bundle of texts unless you need more than 400. €20 per month gets you unlimited voice and 15GB data on prepay. Proper 4G network with HD Voice.

No need for texts if you use whatsapp or similar.

I note Argos are now selling the new Moto G G4 for 179, which is a good price.

I've just trying to convince myself I can handle a 5.5" phone in my pocket...

Pity nowhere seems to be stocking the G4 Plus 32gb version in the UK or Ireland, it's about €250 in the us which is a lot of phone for the money.

Its £160 on the UK site so even with the cheap sterling its good value here.

You can't just go into Tesco and ask a random member of staff for any these deals, they don't tell the staff anything, you need a manager who knows what they have locked in the office.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,283 ✭✭✭✭RobbingBandit

Good thing I went to the tesco mobile counter then isn't it... ;)

I went and bought it yesterday - I'm well pleased with it. Its just an upgrade from 3rd Gen for me so its really almost exactly the same just much more powerful with super charging and battery life.

Mine locked to the first one. Which I though was a three sim. But it isn't it was a three replacement sim for an O2 sim. So now it locked to O2. Grrr. Going to have to get properly unlocked now.

Na. The screen is cracked a bit anyway. I'll hang onto it as a back up.

    It a great deal.

Be aware it needs a decently fast SD card. It complained about the regular ones I've tried, being slow. They worked though.

I'd also say the camera is just ok. My old Lumia 8mp is noticeably better. If you are not big into photos you'll probably think its good enough.

The Meteor site says it doesnt have expandable memory - I assume this is a mistake?

Torn between this and the 16gb version for 210 on Argos.

The 4th gen also seems to be on Argos for 180 - 5.5 screen aside, does anyone know if this model also has 2GB ram/16GB storage?

Yes it has a SD card slot.

The lowest spec on 4th gen is 2GB/16GB. The 4th gen is bigger, but lacks the waterproof rating.

    Are you sure?

    Check this spec

    http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_g_4g-6355.php

MEMORY Card slot microSD, up to 32 GB (dedicated slot)
Internal 8 GB, 1 GB RAM

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,648 ✭✭✭✭beauf

That not a 4Gen. That a 1st gen with 4G (LTE). You can tell because its a 4.5" screen and 5mp camera, 2070 mAh battery.

The 4th Gen is 5.5" screen, 13mp camera and a 3000 mAh battery.
There are other 4th gen models, like a 32GB version and a Plus version.

    Full list is here somewhere.

Perfect just picked one of these up..screen cracked on my Samsung so looking for something to tide me over for next couple of months or so!

I had that version of the G 3rd gen. Note of warning if you use more than a couple of apps you will be plagued with space issues (general Android problem on 8GB phones. ). Even with flex storage and an SD card its very frustrating.

So if you are a light user it works. If you intent to use a range of apps I really recommend paying extra for the 2GB/16GB version of the 3rd Gen.

The size and form of the G 3rd gen is great. I hate the way nearly any decent spec phone is gone to 5.5" you can't pocket them comfortably.

I was in Wilton Cork during lunch and they only had 2nd gen 4G....
I was hoping they had the 3rd generation.

But I still have not heard anyone here confirm whether or not the phone is sim free till you put a sim in .

I am looking for a ph for me missis . No one has actually confirmed this point.

If I buy a ph from Meteor and it does not unlock, then I'm screwed as were all on 48 .

Stupid Q probably but is this still the case if I buy it online? Afraid in case they'll have it turned on and then tied to Meteor.

Googled the meteor Online code but couldn't find. Would be great if I could get for €109.
