When making beans on toast I tend to just put the beans straight on the toast. Does anyone butter it first?

Toast has to be buttered, and some grated cheese on the beans is good, if you're feeling decadent.

I would have thought most people do, as it's far tastier, but unfortunately not as healthy.

So if you're not in the habit of doing so, you're lucky, don't acquire it !

Toast must be buttered. It's just burnt bread otherwise.

OP here, I only recently started eating beans on toast (never cared much for beans before) and never thought of buttering the toast. Reading these responses I now feel like I've really missed out... Like those people who have bread with no butter with their soup. Ew.

Has to be buttered. Wasting your time otherwise. Little bit of ketchup (chef obviously) mixed into the beans is a nice touch.

When I was a teenager, eating a plate of beans was like looking in a mirror.

Of course I butter my toast. Lots and lots of butter.

    good for you :) :
Risk for heart attacks, strokes and overall cardiovascular disease was similar regardless of butter intake, according to the results in PLoS ONE.

Each additional tablespoon of butter consumed was tied to a 4 percent lower risk of developing diabetes.

Add hot sauce too. Chill cheesey beans are a taste sensation.

And OP - just butter your ****ing toast. What kind of monster are you?

    This needs a poll....

I've never seen anyone butter their toast with beans

Of course. I have beans and toast, not beans on toast. Big difference.

I add toast to my butter and beans.

I'm sure this is a double entendre, but I can't work out the specifics.

If you add a tin of spaghetti hoops with the beans you get loads of little flying saucers.

The ONLY way to eat beans on toast.....

    Slather toast with butter
    Pour beans on
Cut off and eat crusts, while beans/sauce soak in to buttery toast
    Eat all the beans

Finally the best bit - the soggy, butter, tomato-saucy toast.

Try not to drip buttery tomato sauce down your front :D

    Yum!

It should go without saying but I feel it's important enough to stress: Dairy spread is not butter. Flora is not butter. I Can't Believe It's Not Butter (I can) is NOT butter.

When I say I butter my toast, I mean the real thing. No vegetable input at all.

Anyone who 'butters' their toast with Flora or spread needs to be taken out the back and shot for crimes against food. :(

REAL butter now lads. None of that artificial spread shíte.

Bit of grated cheese and black pepper.

Right that's the midnight snack sorted. Cheers OP!

    Dumb Question,yes yes and yes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,043 ✭✭✭Wabbit Ears

Butter is only used when the toast requires softening and lubricating to make it more easily eaten. For beans on toast the sauce performs the task of the butter so butter is unnecessary and redundant.

Yes. Real butter on the toast then the beans then some grated cheddar. Awww yeah.

I can also recommend substituting the toast with a potato waffle.

Oh God no!!! Makes the butter all runny and mixes with the beans.....yuck!!!!

Loads of butter. Any excess on the knife is then stirred into the beans before pouring over the toast.

Two thick slices of white bread, must be the extra thick toasy stuff. Feck the healthy options here.

Then when toasted to your satisfaction, DEFINITELY butter, but REAL butter, none of the pretend stuff now!

Pour beans on top, add a teeny bit of red sauce, and a gansy load of grated strong cheddar. Let the cheese melt a bit...

    Food of the absolute gods.

And takes three minutes. Where would you get it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,761 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

Yes butter toast and apply heated baked beans.

I usually add a knob of butter to a saucepan when heating baked beans. Fact is baked beans in a tomato sauce with a small bit of butter added, enhances the flavour.

Yeah has to be real butter and it is the healthy alternative to unhealthy spreads.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2016/06/29/butter-not-bad-for-healthbut-what-you-spread-it-on-might-be/
Butter is not that bad for health but may have earned a bad reputation because it so often spread on unhealthy foods, such as white bread, new research suggests. A review of nine studies involving more than 600,000 people found that butter was only weakly associated with total mortality, and not linked to cardiovascular disease at all. It even seemed to protect, slightly, against diabetes.

Real butter as the alternatives are unhealthy.

Beans are ick. Heinz spaghetti hoops in the SnapPack are where it's at.

Fresh white bread, toasted, buttered. Cheese is optional, but must be melted if used. Load on the hot hoops.

    Heaven.
