Why does a good tune make everything better?

I was scrubbing the bathroom today with Vintage TV blaring away in the background and I have to say the tunes played made my crappy task much more endurable.
They played some James Brown, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and even a bit of Elvis, but alas no Joe Tex :(
I'd listen to all kinds of everything really, except some forms of jazz.
What kind of evil genius came up with controlling the masses with music?

Short answer for me but long answer for you: read This is Your Brain on Music. Or audiobook it.

It takes the edge of the reality of everyday existence.

Since I've given up booze and fags I think I'd go crazy if I didn't have music to sooth me.

During the worst period of my life as regards depression I did not listen to any music at all. I had no interest in it. Prior to ldepression I sought it out at every moment I could. Now I have the radio on as often as I can and I seek out a lot of new bands when not listening to the radio.

I love music too. Listening to a good tune can take your mind to far away places in time and distance.
But listening to some of the bubblegum crap music would drive you demented too.

I find these days that I only really listen to music in the car even though as I type this I have a few thousand MP3s I could play... and used to always have something on.

Not sure what changed to be honest

When I was in my teens, early twenties I listened to music all the time and found it to be a joyous experience.

As time went on, I just stopped listening to music.

So I've set about rekindling my love of music. Every week now I'm going to seek out new music, today I listened to Brian Eno, Brett Anderson, Little Green Cars. All spectacular and thanks to Spotify completely accessible.
