Mel Gibson back to the kind of persona he is best known for. This looks great. :)
An ex-con reunites with his estranged wayward 16-year old daughter to protect her from drug dealers who are trying to kill her.

Crazy Mel living in a trailer in the desert and having adventures. Please let this be the first in a franchise.

Really hoping that this is half as good as the trailer hints at, Gibson is one of the most charismatic actors about and it's a shame that we've seen so little of him of late. He's also got Hacksaw Ridge on the horizon and say what you will about Gibson, he can tell a story better than most.

Always found it funny how the cast of The Hangover 2 lead by Zach Galifianakis protested the cameo by Gibson so much that they decided not to have him show up, yet the same cast had no problem sharing the screen with a convicted rapist.

    Unfortunately its not .

I had the misfortune of watching this last night .
The reviews were good and I was expecting a solid action flick but it was a very poor film.

The acting is poor ,especially the daughter ,who is a very poor actress.
Gibson is just going through the motions too, some of his scenes were cringeworthy .
Its predictable ,the pacing is all over the place and there isn't even much action, just grating drivel as dialogue.

There is a reason the film was on the shelf for over 2 years ,and at 87 minutes it looks like parts of it were cut.
    Its a turkey.

Saw it a few weeks back and loved it, Gibson delivers one of the most charismatic, dark and impressive performances in a very long time in this fantastic genre picture that over the course of its 80 minute run time impresses time and again. With gorgeous visuals, some brilliantly grounded action set pieces, the kind of quick fire dialogue that Gibson can do in his sleep and best of all an actor at the top of his game, Blood Father is this years genre masterpiece. An absolute gem of a film, it offers more thrills, spills and genuine laughs than any of this past summer's blockbusters and shows once again that the best cinema is about story and not simply spectacle.

I'm not sure if you are serious or on the wind up ,did we watch the same film ?

The film I watched had very little story or charm ,the dialogue was not sharp or witty ,it was clunky and irritating.
Too many of the characters were cliches ,they were like something out of a cartoon.

The director is the same guy who directed the excellent Mesrine ,I dont know what happened on the set of this film but the end product was a mess.

Mel's previous solo outing Get the Gringo was infinitely better .

    I'm confused!

Anyway, i was hoping this would be half decent but it wasn't. At times it was tough to watch Gibson because he used to have such charisma but it's like he's forgotten how to act!

I have to say I'd lean more towards Darko's appraisal, not quite sure I'd consider it a masterpiece or even a particularly great film that said, but it is very entertaining and moves along at a good pace.

It doesn't bring anything fresh or innovative to the table and is entirely guilty of being consistently cliche, right from the opening scenes until the credits roll - but to be frank, it doesn't try too hard to be anything other than an enjoyable, root-for-the-good-guys romp and the whole thing just worked for me.

Mel Gibson just does such a great job as the grizzled, tired ex-con that it does stand above a lot of standard fare being produced these days. The film would have slipped by without him, because he is the movie. I'd disagree with the comments about him phoning it in, I thought he put a good effort into the movie and it shows.

I also have to say he's looking absolutely fantastic in this - maybe as good as he's been in nigh on two decades, he obviously put a huge amount of work into getting into shape for role and it paid off.

He's a very credible action star based on this performance and personally I thought it was far better than Get the Gringo as well.

Good, solid, trashy b-movie fun. Would recommend. Gibson is great in it.

    Nothing more, nothing less.
