This might be a stupid question.

I know there's a train from Fota to Cork city but can you access it without going into the wildlife park? We're staying at Fota Island hotel in August and think my daughter would love a short train trip but is it possible to park at the wildlife park and get the train from there without paying for admission?

Yes, the station is outside the park (just). You can walk there from the hotel.

Yes, and there is also a train station in nearby carrigtwohill which might be easier to access.

You will have to pay for parking either way couple of euro. If weather nice i recommend visiting / having picnic in grounds of fota house beside wildlife pk. Nice gardens and aside from parking fee you can walk around gardens for free

Isn't the car park at Carrigtwohill station free?

The hotel have a free shuttle to and from the wildlife park a few times per day during the summer - the front desk will have all the times.
