Hi guys, question. I filled out 2 Esta applications on line last night. Mine was approved but my partners wasn't. So I checked today and it turns out I put yes to one of the questions that should have been a no! On further investigation it says I have to do it again at my expense. ..so be it..but when I fill out the info again, at the end it say all fields in red must be filled...Then says in red "you have not been approved" and it won't let me continue. . What can I do? We fly tomorrow morn. We are just changing flights in the US on the way to Brazil. Thanks

You won't be allowed fly without the esta

Because you have answered one of those questions incorrectly you wont be able to change the details even submitting a new request it will always be denied because of the original answers. I believe a visa would be the only way to travel to the USA if you can't get an ESTA.

Calling the embassy may be your best bet but I doubt they will do anything in a day.

ok guys latest.... i have rang embassies, airports, airlines, customs and ESTA in the USA and checked their web page, with no luck. i searched the internet and found a few people who said wait 24 hours....so i retried after 24 hours and it worked. had to pay again but **** it. 14 dollars is a small price to pay for my stupidity. it's 1.39 am and i fly at 11 am so just about had time. hope this helps anyone else in the same boat. if this happens to you make sure when you re apply that you say you haven't been refused a visa before or you'll **** it up again! i can't understand why they cant simply state on the web page that if you make a mistake on your application, just wait 24 hours and re do it???? i have spent the whole day worrying and stressing and searching for a solution to this simple mistake. we even looked at the awful option of buying new flights with a different path that by passes USA. thanks.

That's great to hear glad you were able to get the ESTA.

I would make sure that you get to the airport very early as I know that they sometimes select certain people to have a longer chat with when you are going through CBP in Dublin airport. And given your current situation with multiple ESTAS linked to your details your chance of being picked out might be higher.

Just because you have the ESTA it isn't a guarantee that you will be allowed travel so just make sure you have all your details ready incase you get picked out.

There are at least one and possibly two review points when filling in the form where you can check that you've filled everything in correctly, and if not, start again.
People really need to read this stuff carefully as the US officials don't mess around.

There is 2 now. And you actually have to read and tick a box saying you have read every single section, and you can't pay until you've ticked all the boxes.

Only reason people would make a mistake is utter, utter stupidity.

Ah come on. Everyone makes mistakes. No need to be so judgmental.

The OP got an awful fright, and will never make that mistake again!

Delighted all was sorted. Travelling can raise the stress levels no matter who you are or how "organised" you think you are.

I made a mistake on one a couple of years ago. Filled out mine and my fathers form. Turned out, unbeknownst to me, he'd been arrested there a few years earlier for some kind of drunken misbehavior. Got stopped on arrival in Miami, allowed entry by the grace of a customs official with Irish heritage.

Lesson one: Fill out your own form

Lesson two: it doesn't take much to get arrested in the 'land of the free'.
