I've just accepted a place doing Arts in Galway, I'm absolutely delighted to have got what I wanted. Just wanted to start a post to talk to other Mature Students in NUIG. I'm both excited & nervous about starting.

Start your reading now/early. It will make things much easier if you do. Especially for English
Jane Eyre, 1984, The Handmaid’s Tale and The Butcher Boy are novels you do in first year in first semester. Get copies and start reading asap..

Also get involved in clubs/societies... helps with getting to know people

Thanks for that, I'm definitely going to start my reading now.
I can't wait to get started and get settled in. It's going to be such a big change.

Hi there, I have just accepted my place in Arts with creative writing at NUIG. I'm having to sell up and move west so it will be a big change for me and my wife. I'm excited and really looking forward to meeting up with other students such as yourself. Great days ahead, I think.

Best of luck guys, there's loads of mature students around so you won't be alone. There's also an active Mature Students' Society which organises events and socials and if you've any problems, there's a Mature Students' Officer on the Students' Union.

I'm starting first year in september doing IT & Computer Science. At 26 i don't really feel like a mature student, but I'm certainely a bit beyond the average first year in terms of age.

Don't get me started on SUSI if I get one more letter asking me to send on more information, I'll go mad.

I definitely think I'm more excited this time round but also more nervous

I applied for Susi on last day too, and have not heard anything yet.

I applied for BTEA on same day and have been provisionally approved, which is a relief!
    :)

We will have to be patient with Susi.
