    If you bought a vehicle and could prove that you got it cheaper then the current osmp would you be entitled to cheaper vrt? im looking to buy a car thats nearly 2000 euro cheaper then the current osmp on the vrt website.

    The OSMP is the price in Ireland, is that what your comparing it to?

    There has been cases where people appealed and with success but you would need to have a good case first.

    Ya that's what I'm comparing it too.. I never see this car on donedeal or on the Irish roads so id say it's pretty rare up this side I seen one on donedeal a few months ago but that was it.. Its a mk4 fr ibiza incase your wondering..

    The omsp is the price of the car retailing in Ireland.

    If you paid less for it in the UK that is irrelevant.

    Your grounds for appeal are based on the current retail prices in Ireland.

    If there are multiple examples of carzone/donedeal ads for the exact model retailing below the omsp on the vrt calculator then you may have a case.

    However, you must first pay the VRT and make your claim afterwards.

    That's not what I was hoping to hear but thanks for clearing it up.

    Revenue are not interested in what you paid for the car in another country. They set it's value here and VRT is calculated as a percentage of that figure. If you can find cheaper here then you need to appeal the VRT after you have paid it based on their valuation. You cannot appeal before hand though.
