Pump fed toilet cycling pump on and off

My toilet is pump fed and after a flush as the cistern fills up just to about the full level the pump stops....

Water continues to drip out of the fill valve and of course the pump cycles on again, and goes off and on and off for about 15 times. Until the cistern is full.

    This happens for every flush.

Im wondering have I the right fill valve for a pressurised system?

I have tried adjusting the full level by adjusting the float but no matter what level its at, as the final, lets say 500mls go into the cistern, the pump cycles on and off.

That valve is really not suitable for a pumped system for the very reasons you are asking about.
To save your sanity, and not to risk damage to the pump, throw it away and fit a FluidMaster PRO 45 B, and that will be the end of your troubles.

Hi I recently put an old brase ball cock valve via the side of the cistern to replace the broken plastic one. It was a rush job as couldnt find one like the original. I have noticed similer issue pump kicks in about 3 times when its near full. Will this eventuly harm the pump. Afaik the cistern is fed from the cold water tank that feeds the hot water cylinder. Im not sure if the previous valve did this. Its at a friends house. Realy couldnt work out how the old one worked it had like a sharp pin in it and a washer.
