Have to say I'm getting to like RTE Gold more every day.

Love the music mix, love the convenience of hearing it on Saorview on the TV and through the RTE radio app.

Very little talk/ads and more classic music happy days in my book :)

I'd love to have DAB just for it.

Lyric should be replaced with Gold.

It'd get a much bigger audience.

Lyric should do what it was set up to do - play mainly classical and specialist music - reflect artist and cultural life in Ireland. Not Marty frikken Whelan playing Abba, Sonny & Cher and Val Doonigan.

RTE should not be in the business of providing a Gold format station on FM or indeed on DAB.

Also, no-one is being paid to be on it or any of the DAB stations - unions have turned a blind eye, apparently.
I have also heard it said that IMRO and the PPI have agreed to waive their fee during this 'test' phase, which has lasted a decade.

Hope it keeps fine for the brothers in the RTE Trade Union Group after allowing such a precedent in a semi state company!

I don't know why they don't call it RTE Ór and have the few words that are on it in Irish, put it on one of the FM frequencies and get people using a cúpla focal.

Two birds with one stone, etc..

    I think that's actually a runner - even on a part-time basis.

Never really understood the love some people seem to have for this service. It's just a jukebox playing pretty mainstream oldies. Download the tunein app and get literally 1000s of smiller.

I think people like that it is a service from RTE the state broadcaster and that there are familiar voices on the schedule at the weekend. They playlist is very varied.

I personally like it because I first heard these oldies as chart hits 20 or 35 years ago - they were played on RTE radio and are now still played from the same radio centre building! maybe it's an anorak thing......

Why is rte gold playing so much 80s and 90s music when plenty of stations on FM are doing that ?

They play a better variety of those decades. Anyway the national stations have cut down on 80s and 90s over the past few years
