So an aunt of mine gave me a phone at the weekend for free, basically it was her sons phone, that he used when he was studying in Dublin, and apparently they cannot use in the north (where they're from) , as I'm assuming its sim locked, ie they can't put a UK sim in it.

Anyway, it has €40 credit still to be used, and I'm considering throwing it up on done deal or adverts, as a little side earner.

Anyway, SIM locked but I know the pin code,'so that's not problem. However, after initial set up, it then tells me that the device was recently reset, and to log in with a Google account recently used with the phone.

I don' know what Google account was recently used with phone, and I'd rather not ask my cousin for his email address and password to his email account.

Wondering if anyone has any ideas.

Ps the phone is a Samsung Yateley and its locked to meteor.

    Cheers.

Google introduced a security feature in Lollipop that after a reset only the original Google account can unlock it. The only official way to unlock it is with previous owners Google account details.

    Well Google it's an asshat.

Surely this will have some knock on effect to the second hand phone market?

I now have to text my cousin, and ask him for his email sign in details?

    Because that's not awkward.

Anyone know if flashing a new firmware via Odin would help?

If the phone is encrypted first and reset afterwards it doesnt need an original gmail account, you can enter any gmail into it.

It looks like the owner didnt factory reset properly.
