Anyone use one of these for keeping the hedge back from the electric fence? Would it be back breaking work to do a few hundred metres every year.

Yes use it.. works well but I also spray some ditches so not too hard. Tough o back if you give a hour working .also handy if any spots of Ragwort in fields

Used to do it but gave it up and spray.
It's hard work and then any indiscretions and the fence is cut :(

I use lots of petrol every year strimming
A good quality harness is essential I have one like in photo

Good quality saw flex (strongest I could find) takes out briars and odd bits of furze.

(all ditched gat a light spray of Grazon (90 or pro) round now to lighten the workload)

we have an electric one!, bought in lidl a few years ago as it was cheap!, decided to get it as a trial with a notion of getting petrol one if it wasn't a complete torture and overly time consuming! that cheapo electric one is now into its third season!, and is a lot lighter than any petrol one we have looked at. it will take off anything up to about an inch dia without flinching, won't dream of going fencing without it either!

the wee electric one suits how we work tho, it has 2 batteries, and get about 45mins out of each which is grand as we usually just do a field at a time before the cattle go in. most fields have 2 or 3 hedges with wire in front of them and are about 3-4 acres, usually takes about an hour or so, and tbh wouldn't fancy doing much more at a time! usually end up going around the ditches twice in the year and they are nailed with the tractor hedge cutter every few years

I don't think I ever saw an electric strimmer @ 45 minutes a battery that will take anything up to an inch it sounds an alternative to a petrol one

I'm surprised at you brian, with you being the outdoors type. Look at all the biodiversity you are spraying off!

Have a tanaka petrol trimmer here. Mighty tool. A run around every field a couple of times a year keeps em tidy. Get hedge cutter to do the ditches with dykes running along them.

Use it often over the summer here, really handy for tidying up around stakes and gateposts. Does a great job where u cant top. Really easy to use for a few hours if u get a proper harness.

We have a Stihl Combi unit
One of the best tools on the farm , ideal for under the electric fence wire and you can adjust the angle for trimming the sides
Can cut as fast as you walk and about 6 foot reach which is the real deal
No more scraped hands and arms!!
Have a chain saw attachment for it also for the low lying branches
    Great piece of kit

Well I took your advice and bought one. Coincidence or what but Lidl were selling them last week for €60. So far so good, it seems to be a fine job . It's very light and the battery does seem to last a good bit.

Have a tanaka here for at least 15 years. Excellent machine. And about 2/3rds the price of a stihl

Same here. Think it's 43 cc and a bit thirsty, would use a litre and a half every hour but you need the power.

Good info lads, thx for that. Any chance of a pix to show the one you mean exactly.
Did it come with 2 x 18v lithium batteries?
