Insuring a 1995 Car

I want to insure a 1995 Toyota. So far everyone has declined it based solely on age - I am a mature driver with a perfect driving record & no claims.

Has anyone recently insured a car of this age & who with ? Thanks.

Try a broker like First Ireland. They may be able to provide cover with some insurance company.

Get onto the ombudsman and make a complaint.

Axa just quoted €600 Third Party. The previous owner was paying €250 & is younger than me !

    Possibly as a classic policy

Last year I got a quote from FBD on a 1995 Mercedes C220 for €220, TPFT classic.

Possibly others are 25 years onwards and car/driver dependent it's 15 years onwards for a classic policy (usually have to be 30 for this)

To be honest €250 doesn't sound very accurate. That's probably what the previous owner used to pay before they jacked up insurance costs, especially on older cars which is probably why he/she sold it.

€250 seems very low, even for a few years ago.

I'd take this and run tbh.

I really think we are about to see a whole raft of older cars scrapped off similar to when the government ran the scrappage scheme.
Insurance companies are loading and loading older cars and people will just scrap them out completly. The government are too busy choosing who's ass to brown nose over this Brexit thing and have their eye completly off the ball regarding what's happening in the country.

Imagine having a compulsory product where you could make up prices and have no obligation to give a breakdown of how said price was arrived at. Just to prove they are making up and gouging prices they can drop random amounts off renewal prices when pressured, I've heard of in excess of €200 being dropped just on request over the phone, this really is sinful gouging behaviour.

Just got offered €550. I paid €350 last year for a 2 litre 2000 Jeep. This is a 1.3 that will do less than 5,000 miles a year & I have a perfect driving record.

Did you get a renewal figure for the Jeep yet ?
Would be interesting to see how that compares to the quotes for the Toyota.
