Vodafone price increases

Just got an email from Vodafone saying my bill will be going up from 35 to 40 a month for broadband.

I presume most people will be getting a similiar increase. The good news is that we can cancel our contracts! Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to move?

    Where's the bargain?

There's nowhere to go really. Vodafone are increasing it as openeir are increasing the wholesale rate. You won't get anything for a regular price of less than €40

Paying 38 euro for broadband only with Vodafone. They keep phoning me to lock me into another contract for no additional benefits.

Can't see anyone offering prices cheaper than 40 euro...

I have Vodafone Home Essentials and I spoke to a rep a few minutes ago who said that my package was not included in the list of those slated for a price rise, so I don't get to get out of my contract early. I'm pissed off because Vodafone lied to me in the beginning by telling me they could accommodate my need for a VPN and VOIP connection to work.

    I'm the same - 38 per month.

    Vodafone Fixed Broadband Modem (Fibre).

Out of contract since march last year - they calling me every couple of days to renew with new contract for 2 euro more but no luck so far.
I asked if I get new modem - nope.
I asked if I will have stable connection - nope.
They told me that my speed will be up 100Mb - it is now like that (55 Mb as my landline can't coop with more that that).

So still on 38 euros per moth.

    Hi all,
Is there a monthly cap with this service?

    Thanks,

I'm on VF Fibre Unlimited, €38 a month.I extended my contract with them and it's set at €38 a month.I never had a problem plus I can move if they decide to up my price as I stated that I expect to pay only €38 a month for the duration of it and no more.

Vodafone are increasing their prices for their PAYG customers too. They're reducing their 'month' from the standard 30 days to 28 days.

So there will now be 13 months in a Vodafone year!

I am currently on 35 euro a month and coming to the end of my 18 month contract. I got an email today notifying me of the increase to 40 euro month. I am sure they are entitled to do so seeing as my contract is up .

38 was price last year for base product. Pure are 44 for same thing so to be fair on VF, its still best price for the product.

But Pures inclusive minutes are better(for me anyway) . And their out of bundle charges are cheaper especially calls to USA which I make.

Pretty sure it went from 35 to 38 for some customers about a year ago,

  • Moderators Posts: 6,900 ✭✭✭Spocker

I got this notification recently too, for my 'Vodafone At Home Talk Anytime + Unlimited Broadband" package, which was costing me €61/month, and if I did nothing they would have switched me to Home essentials @€;47.50 for 6 months and €52.50 thereafter (so it was a price decrease for me)

However, as I was out of contract anyways, I figured it couldn't hurt to ring up and speak nicely to the customer service agent, who agreed I could be considered a new customer, meaning I got the Home Unlimited plan for €40/6 months and €55 thereafter (it appears as a €90 credit on my next bill) *and* I got a voucher for 6 months Netflix worth €60.

It never hurts to ask, and in fairness, I can't fault their service.

Yeah I was one of those customers. No idea what the increase was for. I'm raging because I had a €10 discount for mobile so was only paying €28 but now that's ceasing from August.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

€10 discount for mobile? I was paying €30 for simply broadband when I had my mobile with them, then it was 35 without having mobile with them, now it's going up to €40. I would have thought broadband would be a technology that would become cheaper over time, not more expensive. It's just getting faster, but to be honest, even 50mb is grand for most people.

The price increase is due to OpenEir increasing their wholesale prices that Vodafone, Eir etc all pay, (OpenEir is the wholesale arm of Eir)

You can move to another provider, but if they haven't already done so they'll also be increasing their prices too to ensure this price increase by OpenEir is covered.

Everyone is missing that or just ignoring the fact and going on a rant about big bad Vodafone.

On the discount, when I signed up for broadband they had an offer of €10 discount if you had a mobile on a red plan.

    Hi guys,
I would be interested in BB only, no need for phone calls of any description. If I was to sign up in the next while is it €40 a month? Someone here said there was no cap but what sort of speeds can I expect? I can see Simply Broadband - Unlimited fibre broadband on the Vodafone site but can't see any specific details as to the finer details.

    Thanks,
    M

Speeds depend on the distance you are from the cab or exchange or if you're lucky enough to have proper fibre, how deep your pockets are.
    http://business.digiweb.ie/linechecker/
Put your number in there and see what speed is available to you.

I've no phone number at the moment but my apartment is wired for a phone (Eircom wiring). I assume if I went with a Vodafone BB package the router is wired into the phone socket which is not in the best location in relation to my TV and home entertainment setup etc.

    Thanks,

It is. You can run extensions on normal DSL but really need to move the socket for vdsl ("fibre")

I'm also on the €38 per month plan which was originally €35, this price is not listed as one which is increasing.

My friend was on live chat to VF on their site and the rep said that on Nov 1st, simply BB price is going from €40 to €45??? Another price increase so soon, or were they just trying to push them to sign up soon I wonder?

I was on the €38 plan. Got the email. Rang them as I was near end of contract. Re-signed for 18 months for €40 and confirmed it was €40 for the duration of contract. No mention of going to €45.

If they do try to up it to €45 I'll be changing provider as a matter of principal, but I don't see it happening so soon. They will have gotten many people locked into new contracts and a price change would allow them to switch to a new provider.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

They've been ringing me relentlessly to try and get me to extend my contract, I tell them why would I do that and they say to make sure if there's a price increase, that I stay paying €40 a month for 18 months, I told them I'd rather be out of contract as it's more likely prices will drop than increase with more competition to the market and told them I don't think it's nice for them to be advising people to extend their contract for an unlikely situation that will tie them into a price for 18 months and should a better deal come along from another provider, they won't be able to switch and save.

If a price increase IS actually coming AGAIN, maybe they were just being nice and trying to warn me :pac:

I think the €38 plan was the price of the same €35 plan if you didn't have a mobile deal with VF too or something?

Is it Simply Broadband you have too?

well I signed to a new 18 month contract only this month. I can't see BB prices dropping even if more competition comes along. Eir are charging the other companies line rental. So €40 isn't too bad for 100mb Down / 20 Up of which I get close enough actual speed so worth it for me. Just because I am locked into a new contract, doesn't mean I can't jump ship if they try to increase the price.

Sky will offer the same broadband with same speeds for €45 but only tied into a 12 month contract. They don't allow port forwarding on their hubs or at least they didn't a few years ago. When I was with them before, the service was the same as it is with VF now. I'm only with VF for the price so if they up it to 45 I'll switch out of principle even tho it will cost me the same with Sky.

I had call while ago that if I sign up to new contract I get guaranteed broadband for 35 euro. Few weeks later got letter that it's going to 40. Rang them and I said since its going up, there is no benefit for me to be in contract and I want to cancel contract (but continue being customer) and they said if I sign up to new 12 month contract I get it for 35 euro. Ive been paying that ever since

No hope of prices going down for at least 3yrs. OpenEir can't afford it and retail ISP margins are too low. Might shave 2E by moving all staff to Mumbai but that's it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Wow, you reckon? I would have thought this kinda tech would always be reducing in price, not increasing.

For most internet users, speeds of 70mb are probably more than enough? Watch youtube/netflix without buffer issues and a bit of browsing, audio streaming, facebook, email etc.

Maybe there'll be a divide between those just happy to use their mobile for all internet and the prices there are always decreasing and should especially come mid 2017 when the EU wide no roaming thing comes in, but to see fixed bb prices increase is unexpected :(

Just got my new bill. Im out of contract but just got stung for 45 instead if 38. Is it legal for them to just increase bill without any notification? I checked my e-mail for anything from them and the only thing i have is bills...

I got a cold call a few days ago to say that they were increasing the 'deals' on prepay to €65 per month! I normally pay €20 and have done for the guts of 15 years. Already in the stages of switching to three. Their pre-pay plans are excellent.

Apparently there are or will be in the next few weeks. Ridiculous 😑. As if people are willing to pay that, if they're paying €20 previous.

Free calls, texts and data, not sure in what degree as I was too busy telling the Vodafone rep where to get off. It then went to a €45 deal, then a €40 deal and an 'oh okay bye' when I told him I was only willing to pay €20 as previous or I would be switching network.

Guy working for 3 told me all networks will be bumping prices up big time in new year due to loss of revenue from roaming.
