Unpaid for first weeks work.

    A colleague of mine recently started work in the home care sector. He worked 4 twelve hour shift the first week and was told in advance that this was deemed training and would not be paid. The second week he and all the staff had a days training again and this is unpaid. Surely this is exploitation and against the law,

    Yes, it's exploitation, and likely illegal too. Visit Citizen's Information as a first step. But be prepared to complain to Workplace Relations.
