Reputable online watch retailers

    Hi there,

I'm looking to pick up a watch soon enough, currently top of my wishlist is an IWC Portofino.

There seems to be a big variation in prices, mainly led (understandably) by online retailers.

In particular, is thewatchsource.co.uk considered to be reputable? Would these be considered 'grey market', and would that effect the likely value of it in the future? If so, are there any AD's where you can buy online (preferably in Sterling :))?

    Thanks

Keep an eye on jomashop for a flash sale

    http://search.jomashop.com/search#w=iwc%20portofino

I haven't bought from them but AFAIK if you get it by courier you'll definitely pay import duty.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

If you buy a watch from joma shop or similar, do you pay duty on the full retail price or the actual discounted price you have paid. Thanks

In my opinion if you are buying a high value watch >2k you're better off going with an Authorised Dealer. Grey market is fine but the warranty is with the grey dealer and not the company who manufactures the watch. If there is a problem within warranty the watch goes back to the grey market dealers watch maker. Your choice but if I am paying out a lot of money I would prefer the warranty period covered by the watch manufacturer.

Not always the case but something to ask when buying grey. I have a watch from iconic that is fully stamped by an AD in Italy so has worldwide warranty.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, just wondering if these sites are trustworthy:

    http://www.thewatchsource.co.uk/

    and

    http://www.swisswatchesdirect.co.uk/

Something might have caught the eye (spotted someone had one in the 'Post Pics' thread!), but wondering if I'll get smashed on customs or if they're dodgy as hell?

    Thanks!

Edit: I'm an idiot, completely misread OP, though I notice he didn't get an answer on thewatchsource. :o:)
