Does warranty on a used car purchase pass onto subsequent owners?

Apologies for the unwieldy thread title... basically my question is this:

I bought a 132 car last year from the same main dealer who had sold it new at day 1, and the car came with a full 2-year warranty. I'm wondering if I sell it on privately now, does the remaining warranty pass on to the subsequent owner i.e. is the main dealer obliged to honour the warranty?

I'll be ringing the guy who sold me the car, during the week, but just wanted to get others' views... thanks.

If it's the manufacturers warranty the car had new, then yes it passes on.

So you bought 2 year old car and there was 2 years warranty? Don't know of any manufacturer that has a 4 year warranty.

Did you by any chance get an extra years dealer warranty put on top of the remaining 1 year manufacturers warranty?

    What make is it?

Thanks Colm - yes it's one of the Japs, so it was the remaining year of the manufacturer's 3-year warranty, plus a year of dealer warranty. Do I take it then, that the dealer warranty element doesn't pass on?

I don't think the dealer one would pass on. They usually don't.

A manufacturer's warranty stay with the car regardless of owners.
But 132 plus two years is 152, which has expired.

It was 2 years old when bought, 3 year warranty would run out now, but the dealer added a years garage warranty at time of sale to run after the manufacturers warranty

BMW's 2 year used car warranty is transferable afaik. Current owner just rings them up when selling it and gives them the new owner's details.
