I have it too. It's incredibly annoying

I switched to watch it on UTV HD ( Freeview spillover area) and there was no judder there so RTE problem only.

It happened during the Germany game too

Didn't notice it all (in Dublin) so maybe a local thing.

On a related note, the picture and sound quality on Saorview is leagues ahead of Sky HD.

There was also the option to switch to Irish language commentary which was cool because Jim Beglin.

Noticed it on the Swiss game yesterday. Thought it was my Walker box so tried the TV directly and it was worse if anything....

I have the same problem and have done a bit of research.

Saorview is alocated terrestrial channels 21-60.
Newly introduced broadband is allocated channels 60-69

If you have a wide band aerial covering channels 21-69 you may be getting interference from broadband or 4G possibly.
These wideband aerials were for sale when saorview was introduced as a global solution for all transmitters, but not so much now.

I'm going to change my aerial with a narrow band (ch 44,47 here in Limerick) and report back.
But I already know it will work as many of my neighbours have one, and have no problems.

It appears to be happening at too many transmitters to be a 4G issue, which would be more localised. I'm receiving my signal from Mullaghanish and haven't noticed any particular issues, that could be of course I wasn't watching at the particular time it was happening.

@habanerocat - if you're going the narrow band aerial route for Woodcock Hill go with a Group K which will become the post 700MHz clearance wideband aerial (UHF21-48) and cover the present and future allocations for Woodcock Hill and Maghera.

    Noticed it on tg 4
there was a movie on (perfect storm )
absolutely unwatchable due to picture stuttering

I wonder is it the same thing

    channel 30 greystones transmitter

    SNR: 99%
    AGC: 85%
    BER: 0

Yea, all ok now, perfect with the new aerial. Just to recap, it was perfect up to a few weeks ago.

I only had the problem last Sunday and it was only when the football was on RTÉ 2 that there was a problem. All is good since.

I would say the problem you were having was just poor signal, totally unrelated to the 'judder' issue in this thread.

Probably nothing to do with 4G either, as in installing the new aerial you may simply have remade a connection that had gone bad.

No, totally freezing would be the effects of poor signal.

Could be some kind of interference, but more than likely just a poor aerial setup.

If it's a long term problem & past efforts to sort it yourself have failed, I'd say you'd be better off getting someone in.

Urlan on Clare St stock aerials, but these were the people who told me prior to ASO back in 2012 grouped aerials were no longer being manufactured, so naturally I haven't returned there for an aerial since.

Freetv.ie online are the only Irish online retailer carrying them that I can see, €16 + delivery. Have a look at the UK sites for pricing. In the years ahead they will become more readily available as both Ireland and the UK get ready for the 700MHz band clearance.

Just a quick correction to what I posted earlier about Maghera and a Group K aerial, one of the muxes there transmits on UHF55 until 2019/20, so the Group K wouldn't be recommended until that mux is moved.

I live three miles from Woodcock Hill. I had/have a perfect 100% signal. Not a wiring or connection problem. I cahnged the aerial here at home and in a neighbours, problem gone.

What type aerials did you install?

It's a GRPT 21-60. That was the sticker on it.
    Don't know the manufacturer.
So I presume that covers channels 21 to 60.

Yeah, group T, chs. 21-60. The current wideband, certainly preferable to the old group W if there are 800 MHz band 4G stations about.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,847 ✭✭✭✭The Cush

The only problem with the Group T aerial it may only be an interim solution.

If interference was the issue due to the proximity to a new 4G base station with the Group W wideband aerial the same issue would be expected once the 700 MHz band (UHF49-60) is released in about 4 years time with the Group T (UHF 21-60).

This is the reason I recommended a Group K aerial (UHF21-48) for Woodcock Hill as the present and future post 700 MHz clearance frequencies fall within that range. The Group T is of no benefit for Woodcock Hill reception and could cause reception issues in future.

It's more like a drop in the frame rate intermittently. I've not seen it since that Sunday though.
